And in explaining why it's baffling that Billy Davies can't get a job, Billy Davies makes it abundantly clear why no one will touch Billy Davies with a barge pole Monty Chuckle

Imagine naming folk in the papers like that, saying that they should have been sacked so that you could take over Warnock

He's had decent success as a manager, players all buy into his methods, I'm not too fussed about individuals as long as they're doing well.

Thank fuck we didn't go near him.

I don't even know what the story is on why he's "damaged goods" but based on that interview alone.

Hearts job is beneath him and he won't take a job with a club like us for the sake of it but he would've been our manager if the terms were right Warnock  Aye ok.

We've obviously damaged his ego if he's putting us in with teams like st mirren and Dundee Utd.

From what I've seen he starts well.....then it goes a bit less well...then he clears off quick-like blaming others

initial wild-man motivation                   any substance to it?                  any substance to him?

Newsletter from the HMSA, jon daly was speaking

Quote:The first questioner asked Jon if he enjoyed his spell in charge of the First Team following the departure
of Ian Cathro. Yes was the answer, he did enjoy it. He enjoyed working with the team in training and from
the touch line during games and the extra pressure. He also enjoyed talking with the media. He mentioned
his little 'spat' with Brendan Rogers who commented on Hearts management structure in the press. Yes,
said Jon, after that little episode no one talked about the game and our 4 1 defeat at Parkhead!!

The next question concerned the Academy at Riccarton. The reply was that immediately following the
Romanov era the Academy was in a poor state due to lack of investment. Significant progress has been
made both in player and infrastructure investment and both agreed the results of this will be seen in
eighteen months time. Players are recruited from the age of five, relationships are developed with the
parents, coaches put in many hours of work and the player quality has gone through the roof. Surprise was
expressed at kids coming in at such a young age but the coaches explained the Hearts have coaching
satellites all over the Scotland. Players in the under 20's come from all over the planet, and for all groups,
at a Club the size of Hearts, a clear path can be seen towards the first team.

The subject of playing some games at Murrayfield was brought up. No, the players had not trained at
Murrayfield yet but plans have been put in place for this to happen. Jon also told us that Aberdeen had
asked to train on the pitch . Yes you can they were told if we can train at Pittodrie before our games at
Aberdeen!!

Jon was asked about training schedules for different age groups and his comments about the first team's
lack of fitness when he took over as temporary Head Coach. The younger players spend more time
working with a ball and gradually as they get older and go full time move on to physical development and
principles of play. The weekly routine does vary but generally Sunday is a day off after a Saturday game.
The players are split up on Monday for training depending on whether they played or not on Saturday.
Tuesday is a hard day, Wednesday easier and the latter part of the week is used to prepare tactics for the
game on Saturday. Jon mentioned that he took the under 20's to Gullane and Arthurs Seat for some
traditional pre season training which he believes paid dividends. He explained his 'First team not fit
enough' comments by saying he believed the First Team had spent too much time on style of play pre
season and not enough on fitness. As it was an international break period. The coaches had introduced
double training sessions to work on fitness levels.

As happens every year, the coaches were asked to name some players in the under 20's to look out for.
Although both coaches said they don't like to single out players, they did say they saw bright futures for
Harry Cochrane and Lewis Moore and both were excited about Anthony McDonald. They did warn that all
players develop at different times and ages.

The guys were asked if they felt that training methods were wrong why did they not say. Easier said than
done was the reply. Ian Cathro was a very focussed person and thoroughly believed in his methods.
Situations like this occur in all work places.

Inevitably Jon was asked about the note passing incident at Pittodrie and what was written on the note.
Chicken curry and fried rice was Jon's reply! Actually the note was about a tactic Aberdeen were using

that was spotted by Craig sitting in the stand and it was generally agreed that sitting in the stand has
advantages about watching the play flow and that the TV commentators and the media afterwards had
made a big fuss about not very much.
The next questions were important ones. What style of play can we expect with new coaches and what are
our targets for the season? Not sure about formations was the reply but we will be playing more attacking
football, getting the ball put wide and into the box. Most important to start winning games again. Hearts
are a big Club and should be qualifying for Europe as well as doing well in the Cups. The League Cup has
gone but we should be looking for a good run in the Scottish Cup or better. Playing our first four games
away and then playing at Murrayfield will make for a difficult start to the season. It is very important to
keep in touch with the leaders and make up ground when we have regular games at Tynecastle. It is also
important that the players show passion and 100% effort. Fans will forgive mistakes but not a lack of
passion.

Although a lot has correctly been made about young player development, experience is also required and
the coaches were very complimentary about the contribution from and the benefits of more experienced
players like Christophe Berra, Aaron Hughes and Don Cowie. They are very important players agreed Jon
and Liam, both on and off the park All are highly skilled and can teach the youngsters with their
experience and good habits, role models all three.

The evening ended with a question about recent recruitment. The boys agreed that recruitment had been
mixed and that some players had perhaps not given one hundred per cent. The close season was different
with signing of the likes of Christophe Berra and others. If Jamie Walker is staying at Hearts, work will
have to be done on his fitness and attitude. There is no doubt he is a special talent.
