By the way, the future Queen was kicking about down there as well so I don't blame these women for going down.

I wish I could give you a super intelligent answer but I'm just like you, a bystander watching it play out. We live/d in an exceptional period of history where some of us living in the West have/had some democratic control over our futures. The transition from social democracy to market liberalism has seen our political class hand popular power to corporates. We didn't notice it at first, but now that the free flow of capital is screeching to a halt and the globalisation project comes to an end, what I see happening is that they will try to continue the current system by force. Varoufakis has given a nice talk on his prediction of a kind of techno-feudalism living in a rentier economy where public ownership disappears. This is also why I am not fully committed to the UBI proposals. While I want people protected from neoliberal excess, I only want us to be reliant on the state when the state is functioning healthily. Before you know it we become docile, relying on a post-cash digital economy world whereby we accrue digital credits through good societal behaviours and spend them on big tech services. A simple example is Spotify. We used to buy records or CDs and if you lost your job you could sell your record or CD collection. It had sell-on value. If you rent a music service, then when you lose your job, you have nothing of material value to sell to accrue capital. Same with renting driverless cars instead of owning a car of your own. You start to own nothing of value and become reliant on the state and big tech services all the while you exchange data useful for surveillance through these transactions. The more we are tracked the harder it is for people to negotiate a social contract through acts of civil disobedience as we always feel monitored.

It'll be interesting/scary to see what other powers they keep from all this emergency legislation. Was reading about some of the liberties they took for decades after the Defence of the Realm Act was passed.
Also, Roy Jenkins and the Prevention of Terrorism Acts. Still on the go, albeit renamed in 2000. I believe he called IRA terrorism, 'the biggest threat Britain had faced since the Second World War.' Saw a few journalists pointing this out early doors in lockdown and basically being dismissed as cranks.

Seems the cops are missing treating football fans like scum, and have resorted to doing the same with protesters.

Was it a protest or was it a vigil that the police came in to split up due to coronavirus legislation? of course, Rangers and Liverpool can celebrate a league win but a few lassies cant gather (wearing masks) to lay flowers and light candles?

They always choose the easy option, seen it time and again, why challenge 58k of Cheltic fans when you can pick on a couple of hundred in the away end. Genuinely feel sorry for the people there for a peaceful vigil, but coppers are gonna copper sadly.

It's the police being what they always have been, just a bit more emboldened by the certain knowledge Priti Patel will back them to the hilt. It could've been different

Don't think they've turned up at 8pm and just battered them. They'll have been given warnings, many times over including that they're about to be arrested, and then they arrested them. The ladies will have most likely have discussed getting arrested, will have been advised what to do. Bit of a game, imo. Just depends upon how far you want to take it.

They are showing their respects then a bunch of policemen turn up and tell them if they don't fuck off they will get arrested. Then they get their faces planted to the ground and cuffed. Do you think they travelled all that way to then just immediately leave? That would be a bit of a silly journey dont you think? "oh hi, im here for the vigil of a dead wom...oh whats that you want us to leave? ok no prob, thanks k bye!"
