Well said.

Very out of character for mak to try and quell open debate. Got to wonder where his allegiances actually lie these days sniff sniff

Unironically, this is what you should do. You aren't here for a conversation. You log on, read none of what's already been posted, and then rehash things other people have already said in ten times as many words while still somehow saying less. You then engage with people who reply to what you said. All you're ever doing is bloviating.

Even Hartley needed a few months to settle after signing from a division down ffs. Milne had half a season plus a pre-season to settle in. The idea that somehow McPake, whom I doubt you've seen play 45 minutes of football, steps up from St Johnstone mid-season and is immediately a key player in a title challenge is just silly.

To add to this debate (if mak is being a genuine jambo here and not sniff sniff a hobo) I probably would’ve liked to have seen us get mcpake in in January.

Having as much firepower available for whatever challenges we face ie injuries or drop in form only benefits us. Dunno if he would’ve made a huge difference but I would’ve liked to see us have the oapshun. Whether he would’ve been needed or whether he would’ve made a huge impact who knows and it’s not really something I’m that bothered about Laugh But if I had the choice I’d rather he was here instead of waiting.

McPake most likely would’ve made more impact than Mato.

Stating this very obvious point constantly in the most long drawn out way imaginable is also painful.

I’d imagine the personal stuff between Mato and his club probably accelerated things on that side and appreciate no 2 signings come with the same “logistics” but def think if there was a push to get Mato in then that should’ve been there for Mcpake too.

Saying that as comfortable as it was in the end did st Johnstone not drop a wee bit around then and their gap was whittled away a bit, so they might’ve been demanding too much for Mcpake to go. Hearts might not see this guy as a guaranteed starter and more of a Spittal type role so we’re not going to go drop several hundred K esp with Islam and Mato coming in who can play there.

In hindsight maybe we should’ve tried harder there but hard to say what st Johnstone wanted and at the time we were bringing 2 in already with Kerjota still waiting on his chance.

I think it’s good McPake got to be the star man winning a title for st Johnstone, rather than picking up a medal here for playing 20 mins here and there. He’ll definitely be able to hit the ground running with a solid pre season rather than chucking him in.

Agreed Mato was speeded up due to the transfer issues

McPake would've almost definitely made more of an impact than Mato, who has come on once as a sub for about 10 minutes. It'd be hard to make any less impact than that and if he did, he'd go down as one of the least successful signings in the history of this club. Warnock

How much of a difference he'd have made in our season is much less clear. Based on the evidence of players we've signed from that division over the last 20 years or so, it's unlikely he'd have immediately come in and been a key player. Constant laments about the missed opportunity to bring in McPake, as though this may be the factor that prevents us from winning the league, are very strange.

To be clear, if ten games into next season McPake has eight goals and is tearing teams to shreds, and we've missed out on this year's league title by one point, then we might look at it and say 'bringing in McPake could've made the difference'. As things stand, it's just classic 'the guy we need is the guy who isn't playing' stuff.

I think Chesnekov might be decent, once he gets settled.

Don't know if he speaks English?

Paul Hartley barely speaks English and it never hampered him.

Hate to pull a negative from last night.

But again Chesnokov didn't deliver and was shown up by the running and guile of Spittal while Kerjota was a big player at ER.

I hear he looks great in training.

Really hope he comes good after a proper pre season here. Same with Mato.

The club might not recruit in these areas as we have these two. Or. They realise quickly they are not the standard we need.

Really would have loved Chesnokov to come of age last night. That pacey, aggressive, attacking winger we thought we had.

The idea was for him to run through the middle and press as a front three.

He ended up receiving the ball with his back to goal a lot, which of course Spittal is much more suited.

It didn’t work, but he put in a shift, I wouldn’t read too much into it.

I got the idea behind it but he seemed a bit overwhelmed.

I think we need to see him next season when the pressure is off. Del obviously sees something he likes but it’s not showing on the pitch yet. There was plenty running and graft though.

I heard from a good source that he's def doing it in training and other players and staff see what he has.

Really hope the lad comes good on the pitch.

Was willing him on last night.

I’m happy with his work ethic and if he’s good in training then I’m confident he’s got a lot to offer.

When he jumped on that guys back edge of the box though. Still can’t be trusted in that regard. If I had to name a player who’d get a silly red card it’s this lad.

Next season for chesney. Get a nice pre season and learn more English.

That wasn’t a free kick. Middle of the park you win a header and the opposition player bends over to put you over their shoulders it goes the other way
