TAXI OUTING CANCELLED

Since 1947, let that sink in,
An annual event, we Cabbies ( pasted & present) have poured MUCH time and effort into this event for local children, fundraising / raffles / charity golf events, the last one being 20 days ago.

Now, in the blink of an eye, by some Pen Pusher it’s all off… 15 days prior to the Event…..

Report :

We have just had a planning meeting with the City of Edinburgh Council and Police Scotland and we were informed of a new policy from the National Police Chief's Council which states that events such as ours can no longer be supported by the Police motorcyclists. Police Scotland have offered static traffic control along Princes Street, the Royal Mile and then through Holyrood Park to Meadowbank, but the rest of the journey would need to be conducted in general traffic obeying all of the traffic lights and junctions along the route. This could mean that, due to the congestion within the city, it could take several hours for the whole convoy to complete the entire route.

Given that all of the children taking part in the Outing all have some form of additional needs, I not prepared to subject them to the uncertainty of the journey, potentially having to sit for 20-30 minutes waiting on the rest of the convoy catching up.

The comfort and safety of the families taking part is the ONLY priority and therefore the Committee has decided that we have no choice but to cancel at least this year's Outing but, if the policy remains the same, then there will be no more Outing, which is a very sorry state of affairs given that we have been undertaking the Outing since 1947.



The following are the MPs and MSPs who cover the area of the Outing. Their constituents will be directly affected by this policy as will the thousands who line the route and join in with this amazing event. If you feel the urge, please contact them and ask if they can secure an exemption from the National Police Chief's Council's policy for our Outing, otherwise there will never be another Edinburgh Taxi Outing.

The same thing happened through here with the Glasgow Easter Egg Run. Same story, bikers been doing it for 40+ years for sick kids in hospital and couldn’t do it any more as the danger of hundreds of costumed bikers merging with regular Easter holiday traffic was too much. Was absolutely gutting.

Interesting direction this government is going. Think Hasan Piker is a bit of an open goal as he seems to have openly spoken in support of proscribed terrorist groups so it’s an extremely easy one for the govt to justify even if there’s a nuanced discussion to be had about violent resistance. He’s a bit of an edgy streamer so probably makes a rod for his own back a bit with the stances he takes.

This other guy seems strange though, I don’t know much about him but from what I know he’s a legit anti Zionist voice who occupies ‘proper’ platforms/channels.

There's been a bit of coordinated effort by "reformed" anti-Trump Republican grifters who have latched onto the Dems to smear Piker, so I wouldn't put too much stock in those claims. The hacks of groups like the Lincoln Project and The Bulwark want to turn the Democratic Party into the Bush-era Republican Party. That's why Harris campaigned with Liz fucking Cheney in pursuit of the non-existent moderate Republican vote and lost to a senile child rapist.

I'm indifferent to Piker and any other political streamer, but he does have a pretty big audience and gets young people engaged with politics. Consultants went on about finding the "Joe Rogan of the left" ( a really stupid idea anyway), but as soon as one actually emerges, they want to sideline him.

The "other guy", Piker's uncle, is easily the biggest charlatan in "independent" media, and that's really saying something.

There’s defo a huge effort to smear Piker but I think he also leans into it as well so it’s easy to frame him as this big violent radical boogeyman.

I just canny really be arsed with that sort of space that he occupies, just a whole bunch of folk who are more interested in getting one up on the other side rather than being serious about change. I’m sure his views come from a sincere place but he also makes his cash of views so it’s hard to take any of these types of streamers that seriously.

He has some weird views on Russia/China anaw, especially with China I don’t think there’s an issue with showing the people aren’t what western media portray them like but I found his wee tour odd and seemed to be trying to challenge western views of the Chinese establishment. It is almost the blueprint of what the tech bro fascists are trying to emulate in the US - to create a super surveillance state with little labour laws or protections. Is this the henry nowak story? I'm sure i vaguely remember the video at the time as it was getting shared by a lot of right wing types that they arrested a stabbing victim lying on the ground because the stabber said he had been racist.

Just reading the BBC article there and strangely doesn't really mention it beyond one or two lines. You'd think that would be a huge part of the story.

They said at the trial there was no evidence of him saying anything racist.

Aye didn't mean he had, just that the Sikh lad had said he had been racist and that's when the police handcuffed him while he bled out.

Seems like the polis have handled it terribly and are doubling down that the officers did nothing wrong
