But the point I was making to Prancer is there are a lot of people who do actually care and will be more likely to buy cars advertised as environmentally friendly or whatever.

And businesses that will have purchased/leased cars to meet specific emissions regulations that they had to adhere to. Those lawsuits will be interesting.

I cannot think there are many that actually measure the emissions of the vehicles and don't just go on logbook value.

If the DVLA/government start redoing log book co2 emissions it would be chaos - but can't see it.

VW will get fucked with fines, be forced to fix the cars and not do it again and the rest will quietly remove any similar dodges they had in place before they get caught.

Expect VW to pay a bit more in tax too for the next few years to keep governments happy Big Grin

Thomsons (ambulance chasers in chief) are doing a mass action against VW at the moment about it.

All cars have their results listed, most people who get a company car will have to pick from a list that's based on specific criteria with emissions being one. I'd imagine that lease companies or businesses that bought VWs might well be looking beyond simply having the cars fixed as they've been opperating under false assumptions for years in some cases.

I know there are already class action lawsuits in the US, I think the same thing could easily happen over here.

Fair enough, I'd imagine these company car lease companies will be in something like that. Slightly different from a member of the public as they don't have contractual obligations to meet with the cars they provide though eh?

No one is financially worse off those as VOSA/DVLA and other country equivalents don't go round testing folks cars and restating the CO2 criteria.

It's just the usual sue someone because you can pish.

The most thing that's been hurt is any eco warrior whose in the same situation they would be if they realised that quorn was actually horse meat. Big Grin

How much did Findus pay out for sticking horse meat in everyone's lasagne?

The measure of loss will be different but that's about it.

Decent side business but selling it is generally frowned upon. Donation is the more socially acceptable choice Warnock

I bought a VW because the low emissions were so appealing, guys. I think I need hefty compensation to make up for this betrayal of my trust as a valued customer Sob

Not even a diesel Greggy I do not doubt for a moment that my emission stats were doctored as wel though Laugh

Chances of me seeing penny one from them? Mugbie

Anyone ever interacted with those Mormons(? Maybe JWs?) who stand politely around their sandwich boards outside Haymarket/Waverley/the High Court?

Not those ones, but there's a mormon church near my house and i sometimes chat to them when i'm walking the dog. Lovely people; mental but lovely.

Usually the folk who stand outside trainstations are JWs. They're just mental.

But they look so normal and respectable. Warnock I'm obviously not going to engage them in chat, but was just wondering if they immediately become totally mental if someone shows some interest in what they're advertising.

Depends on what you say. Chat along the lines of "bit nippy now, eh" and "the nights are beginning to close in" will illicit some predictable responses.

Questions such as "doing anything nice for christmas?", "taking up arms against hitler was a good idea don't you think?", "are we already in end times?" or "if you were gonna die and a simple blood transfusion would save you, you'd take it, right?" might garner a more mental response.

In lawyer speak, it's like when one law talking guy tries to make your client look bad and you try and make them look good.

On a slightly-related muse, "hell's teeth" is an underrated exclamation.

Have encountered a few IRL Mormons; the men have tended to be awful, misogynistic bullies, but put on the veneer of being nice guys. One I know was basically extorting money out of his daughter Jose

The only ones i've encountered have been doing their couple of years of door chapping for the cause. Once i've had my little theology chat with them - i enjoy it, they probably don't - i try and find out what it's like being thrown out in to the world and cut off from your family. They're usually a bit reticent to talk about it, but for a teenager to do it is a colossal thing - away from the batshit mental religion aspect, it's gotta be character building.

The majority i've met aren't even from utah, so are perfectly at ease in the 'real world' and simply choose not to interact with certain parts of culture as part of their faith. But most didnt act as though they primarily defined themselves by their faith and this massive act was largely cultural.

But maybe they grow up to become complete arseholes. It doesnt seem unlikely tbh.
