And yet the Scottish licencing board allow companies like Violet Inc to have shot girls in multiple venues who earn their money by selling as many shots as possible? Their pay is all commission based, they get no hourly rate.

Thats all covered under the venues license though, they don't have their own license.  And also the girls are offered either hourly (£8 p/h) or commission, but their real money is in the tips they get.

Don't really see the issue here.

There is very much an issue from a licencing point of view.

As I said, a lot of shot girls are paid per hour flat rate. Shot girls are subject to the exact same training as bar staff and know the signs, I see where you are coming from but its a very simplistic view of it. I've just recently helped a friend set up her own shot girl company and I had to go through all the legalities of it for venue contracts etc. and absolutely everything is covered under the venues license and operational plan.

If it really was an issue, licensing just wouldn't allow the shot girls. They'd literally just have to ban them and that would be it.

Do I remember reading correctly that you do the doors? Would mean your opinion makes a lot more sense, tbh.

I do - I'm looking at this from what happens during normal Operational hours, I'm afraid the training and legalities mean sweet f all. The vast majority of the girls are commission based, I know only one venue up here that pay by the hour and all their girls left when they switched to move to other venues.

It's already being monitored by licensing up here and I honestly don't think it will be long before commission based selling in licensed venues is shut down.

It doesn't surprise me that you are a 'partner' in a company involved with it while arguing that there is nothing wrong with incentivised selling of alcohol in licensed venues.

Spend a night actually observing the way they Operate in a nightclub environment and you will see that there is a reason this type of business has a sell by date.

So is there an issue with bar managers setting up bonuses for highest sales between bar staff? Or brands giving venue bar staff bonuses for "upselling" their premium brand products instead of the standard one? I've seen both happen in every unit I've worked for/with.

Theres also another guy but I've lost his card.  Tbf, he approached me in a club with a business card for the balloons and gave me a full 5 minute briefing on why his balloon service was the best, then dropped in at the last minute that he does "the best bingo in Edinburgh"

£15 for 24 is healthy steep. Can think of much better things to chuck £15 at. Can get 100 for £25, or 200 for £45, next day delivery on ebay. Interesting idea though, wonder how much of a market there is for it and what the legalities are.
