Warnock never heard of this girl before. She'll get plenty of publicity from this - the Daily Record are running it.

Could be good for her...

Between this and you e-mailing Hearts with suggestions relating to the official calendar, I feel like we are building quite a picture of your existence.

Seems a few of you don't know, or can't remember, who Sandi Thom is. Sandi Thom's only song of note was "I Wish I was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in my Hair)". However, before that her rise to fame puts her gripes about the music industry in a different light.

Cast your minds back to the early days of myspace, when the first musicians started getting famous off the back of it. They were lauded for being able to spread their music without the need for a label or a massive, cynical advertising campaign. "Aha!", thought some cynical music exec, "We can use this". So it was decided that Sandi Thom would host concerts online from her bedroom to her 80k fans - almost all of whom just happened to be employed by the label she was signed to. She was then cynically marketed as an example of a new generation of musician who wasn't cynically marketed. Her song was playlisted on radio 2 and she had her 15 minutes of fame.

Kinda makes a rant against an industry that has subsequently rejected her seem hollow and hypocritical. She's not ugly, so she's not been rejected for that. She's not short of powerful friends; she was the youngest ever person to be admitted to Paul McCartney's Institute for Performing arts. Perhaps her music is either shite, or not relevant?

A few other small gripes - she's not crying, it's just a tantrum. She talks about "this country" despite having lived in the states for years now. Lastly, she acts as though she deserves fame just because she wrote a pop song; i know lots of folk who are talented and have no fame and will never have fame. I also know other people who are fairly big music acts and most of them hold down a 9-5 and then fly off to Amsterdam or Budapest or jump in a bus to Newcastle to go play a gig on a friday night. Then there's this woman complaining as if the world owes her a living.

I suppose the bus is too peasant like for you. Think that over whilst I'm sitting in departures, about to have another pint, after getting here in plenty time for my flight, using that mode of transport. Greggy

Have used the bus before. It's a decent service.
