How has she been AP? Getting much sleep at the moment?

Nice dog Walt, how's the wee guy doing?
12-29-2015, 11:47 AM
He is quality. Christmas was great as we had him up north and off the lead in the woods, and in a field where he was getting to sprint about the place. Being a lurcher he is ridiculously fast. The training is coming on well and recall is getting better, just need to get him socialised with other dogs a bit more.

Beautiful dog, but a jammy wearer

Any suggestions on how to chill that out? Realise a lot of it is just a puppy being a puppy. Read that its better to walk away and ignore her until she calms down?

Was also reading about not chastising them as it can affect them because they are so young, but think that is a bit of a 'Mr Levein sold a pup' piece of advice as they need to be firmly told 'No' as well.

Aye a firm no and ignore them for a few seconds. That's how I got ours to stop. Worked fairly quickly too

Yelping is a good start, but if it's not doing the trick pick them up and put them out the room and shut the door. They hate being separated from the pack - but it needs to be immediate otherwise they don't link the behaviour.
As for ankle biting, just stay absolutely still. If it's boring they'll not learn it as a behaviour. If you try and shake them off then it's a great tuggy.

Cheers chaps.
Whining when in the crate - suggestions?

If you go to her whenever she moans she'll keep doing it and it'll be really difficult to leave her alone. Edit - when we were crate training we'd put a treat or a toy in with him so he'd feel more comfortable in the crate.

So You just stick with it until she accepts it? Tried putting treats In when she goes in but she's not digging it much.
12-30-2015, 12:23 PM
Aye. I edited it to mention treats and toys but you beat me to it
She'll get used to it eventually but if you go to her when she's whining it'll become more difficult.

When she is finally silent in the crate, then take her out and praise her. Then play a little then back in, and repeat. Hovis moans a bit but mainly if he has loads of energy and still wants to play, make sure there is a comfy bed for her and a good solid chew, we got a rawhide bone which keeps him occupied. Kongs are dece as well.

Got her in for a wee 15 minute stretch there, periods when she was going absolutely loco and just about bursting the cage open
and periods where she was fairly relaxed. Soon as she comes out though she's not upset or anything, just wants to play. It's fucking hard when she's howling to the moon
