If there's one thing that actually fucks me off so much is the way folk view their fans. They are fucking cretins but they have this great reputation all over the world. I was so glad when the Dutch police kicked fuck out them and their casuals got at them.

I'm not jealous because we don't get the recognition as decent fans or whatever because we have utter fuckwits who go on euro trips as well but Celtic fans are fucking scum and always will be. I've met very very few who just support the team for what they are and don't punt some sort of paranoid bigoted agenda. My birds dad is a tim, but he isn't really. Just likes them because he grew up in Glasgow around the time when they were decent in Europe. He says he'd never ever go to a Celtic game again after going to Easter Road a few seasons ago with his mate. Imagine him at Tynecastle or Ibrox?

It's fucking ridiculous. For the record, my Barcelona-based mate says over there, Rangers and Celtic fans have an equally horrendous reputation among the locals - and I'd assume that's shared among many clubs forced to endure ra hoops when they come calling.

The reputation owes, I think, mostly to the political changes of the last 20 years: which effectively, however unfairly, casts loyalists as on the wrong side of history. I think that's why David Murray had such difficulty selling Rangers: nowadays, they're effectively a club founded on a negative, which is why they attract so many Millwall and far right types. So Celtic sell themselves to the world as Glasgow's 'good guys' - and because they are far, far better at playing the PR game than Rangers, this gets swallowed hook, line and sinker.

In practice, both clubs are horrific; both supports are horrendous, but at least Rangers fans are more honest about it. Celtic are so sleekit it's unbelievable - and the media just will not do its job and tell the truth about any of it.

Another thing about Celtic's reputation: you'd think it'd dawn on both them and Rangers eventually that the reason England wants nothing to do with either is their fans. The police would never allow them to join the EPL. Nobody in the Scottish media ever points this out at all.

Online - where things are often exaggerated, it must be said - I've noticed a tendency among Celtic fans to act all sweetness and light. But challenge them on anything, anything at all, and it's immediately "you clearly have an agenda" (meaning, in their eyes, an anti-Catholic agenda) in the case of anyone not kissing their disgusting club's backsides.

I only know one Celtic fan IRL. Decent guy, has no time for their sectarian pish. But... no top lip. It's incredible.

This in spades. They say it's a minority thing, but 99% of them that actually go to games will be belting out the IRA pish. Difficult to find a scummier group of people anywhere.


Going back to an earlier conversation, that Spurs penalty is exactly why I'm against video refs in football. Some refs would give that, others wouldn't. You can't have a situation where you're stopping the game to go to a replay and the decision still can't be objectively indisputable.
