Love it the SNP fanboys are now outraged at the DUP whilst seemingly oblivious to the fact the the SNP have their own creationist bampot nitwit in Mason MSP Monty Oh Well

And the SNP, and their supporters, have nobody to blame other than themselves for this result. All they had to do was keep it off their manifesto at the last Holyrood elections. Even a 'the SNP will always believe in independence but don't believe that after the referendum in 2014 this parliament would be an appropriate time to push for another referendum' would have done. They didn't. They lost their majority and they've been punished at WM. It is likely that the dream is now dead - and its all their own fault Monty Smug

And they would have been starting off a far smaller base of seats had it not been for FPTP.

Would love to know what the result would notionally be on the new boundaries which were due for the planned 2020 election. Presumably the next one will be on those boundaries.

I will continue to point out their failings until they are removed from government.

The SNP have more seats than all unionist parties combined. That's the seventh electoral victory for the SNP in a row.

Yeah, we're all distraught and disconsolate, right enough.

Warnock

Mummy just threw away her majority and now has to go crawling over to EU negotiations as a lame duck PM. That's the real story here.

Didn't know about Mason. Queenie The fewer creationist mentalists about the better, though.

I think you're right re. your second paragraph; by leaving the possibility open (tempting because of Brexit, obviously), they left themselves wide open to Dugdale & Davidson making the election in Scotland into a single-issue campaign.

The only thing I disagree with on the "SNP did poorly" front is the idea that "independence is dead". Vlad Shrug Last night has definitely put the brakes on, but it'll come back sooner than you might think, imo.

Independence died in 2014 Acey, they just kept dangling a carrot to cling to power. Party before country just like the Tories. Time to move on, the party is in terminal decline. Labour are your only salvation Sound

Someone on BBC Scotland mentioned 6 hours Warnock

SNP and IndyRef2 are dead for the forseeable future. It is becoming increasingly likely the saviour of the Union will be Jeremy Corbyn, not Davidson or May. Divisive figures such as Davidson and Sturgeon will not be able to claim victory in this new chapter of Scottish politics. Sturgeon has shown herself to be naive in pursuing the agenda of IndyRef2, and Davidson is running purely on opposing the SNP and the Independence referendum which will soon be obsolete. Today, Scottish Labour are in a stronger position than they have been in many years. IndyRef2 has been shelved (SNP played themselves into a corner on the whole 'circumstantial change' aspect), and Corbyn has given Dugdale the template on which to become Scotland's biggest party once more, it remains to be seen whether Dugdale will take up that opportunity.

I get the logic of a shambles Brexit opening the door again. But honestly, I think that when the Tories screw up these negotiations, Labour will be the main beneficiaries all over the UK.

Guys have you not realised yet that if the UK gets a shite deal from the EU - that it's bad for independence.

Unless the plan is to be out of the UK and EU then whatever trade deal the U.K. gets with the EU is the one that an independent Scotland would have to trade with the UK on. The same goes for if we want EEA membership.

If the UK gets a bad deal and faces barriers and tariffs when trading with the EU then those same barriers and tariffs will be what the U.K. will have to deal with when trading with an independent Scotland.

Try convincing Scotland that it will be better off separating from its biggest trading partner and having tariffs and barriers when trading with it.

Have we discussed EVEL yet?

Could be a problem for the Tories.
