Tbf to BC he said £51k in direct taxation - direct taxes aren't just income tax. Stamp duty and capital gains (IHT as well) are all forms of direct taxation.
If he's bought a house this year or anything else he could quite easily have paid £51k. Even if he hasn't £130k is a v good salary but certainly not extraordinary in London.

I'd love to know what Jeremy Hunt has on that woman. I cannot recall any precedent in British government of such a wildly unpopular, demonstrably incompetent minister keeping his position for so long against all possible reason.
Meanwhile, the government actuary has confirmed what we already knew. The so-called National Insurance Fund (which isn't really a fund at all, but enough semantics) will run out by the mid-2030s. The only way to keep it going will be either a huge rise in the pension age, or an eye-popping 5p rise in national insurance. Last page here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/sy...c_2017.pdf

Whether justified or not I always feel like the baby boomers have absolutely shafted the generations that have followed them.

The last thing anyone should want is inter-generational war - but younger generations ain't seen nothin' yet in terms of what's gonna be demanded of them to clean up the boomers' mess. The table below sets out the statistical reality of the "I've paid in my fair share all my life" bollocks which is the mantra of the most selfish, entitled generation in modern history. As well as the equal bollocks that is "young people today are so entitled, and expect everything to be handed to them on a plate!" There has, of course, never been a single society in human history which prospered by putting its old first and its young last. If the UK doesn't reverse course, its future will be grim as grim can be.

Not quite. I don't plan on working past 50 though. Not unless I'm doing something I enjoy.
