Funk has been shite as well. Having seen the state of the boys in the middle it might be worth chucking him in there. Can't be easy switching position for an international.

The fact is, plenty of this 'new breed' are fucking dug meat.

Edit: Oh, and they're also managed by a dinosaur, of course.

The 15/20 mins immediately preceding his substitution I think he had 5 touches/opportunities in the final third with either deliveries or shots and fucked up each one.   Monty Oh Well

Quite Good

I started watching the Arg-Ita game but switched over to Hampden after 20 mins. Thought Arg looked okay actually and without the GOAT too Monty Smug Lanzini looking decent - seems he got the first.

France-Col was on teh telly here and was going to watch it but didn't ... should have. Lampoon

Argies on the way back methinks, ahead of a romantic death or glory effort in Russia. Lawson ranking list currently looking like this:

1. Germany
2. Brazil
3. France
4. Spain
5. Argentina
6. Portugal
7. Belgium
8. Poland
9. Uruguay
10. Colombia

I don't know Shaun; they still look lightweight in midfield and defence. Semis at best.

Wrt your list I'd have Brazil topping it and especially if Neymar comes back hot and ready (Pizza Pizza). I fancy Spain to come back strong in this tournament although a CF is obviously crucial. Morata needs to find form and Costa needs to be back at his devastating best. France will bottle it again, and if any of the major CBs for Belgium get injured I don't think their starring forwards will have enough. From what I've read Colombia could produce something but ultimately you could have any from 5-10 in any order, and I wouldn't entirely rule out England either - they should escape their group then why not, a bit of luck/anything can happen - they're probably due tbh.

So,
1. Brazil
2. Spain
3.Germany
4. France
5. .......

Why Germany only 3rd? In my list, each pair are ridiculously close: you could flip around 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6 with no argument from me. Of course I agree Brazil have a huge chance.

Colombia have just put themselves under more pressure by winning in France. I'm not sure that'll do them any good in the long run, where they invariably bottle it. Just as much as the greatly less talented but defensively securish England. We could get to the quarters because of an incredibly kind draw... but after that, goodnight.

Fancy Brazil or France but this feels like a tournament that could be won by an outsider.

Spain are better than Brazil and France, they're very much an underrated side now.

Don't know really as I don't have anything on which to base my Germany in third. Unlikely that they'll repeat; don't think any side has since Brazil in 58/62. Plus I feel Spain are solid right from GK through back six with two great over-lapping FB/WBs. Skill with Isco and speed with Asensio.

Who are Germany, although we usually find out at the WC proper.

Brazil will similarly be solid 1-6 but with perhaps just that wee bit more flair up front. The pressure of playing in front of your own fans no longer there.

I'd love to see an outside bet winner come in but who realistically falls into that category ... Belgium/Argentina/England. Possible but things are going to have to really fall for them. Jezza

I think only Argentina or Portugal are outsiders who could, if everything falls for them, and they catch lightning in a bottle in the knockouts, possibly go all the way. Belgium/Poland/Colombia/Uruguay/England are all "so far, but no further" sorts of sides - but the four favourites are, well, everyone's four favourites really.
