I'm not sure I buy the 'if she eats the meat its fine' line.

I could go and kill Acey's cats and eat them but that isn't justifiable (might do it actually ). She's travelled half way around the world to kill this specific animal when North America has vast amounts of land where things like deer actually do need to be hunted. It's a trophy for her.

Think Morph is off the mark a bit - if it was an English person people would be just as angry.

People have been going off their heads at American hunters at any opportunity they get. Granted maybe it's the way they go about displaying their kills or whatever is unique to them but fuck knows. I just think Scottish people have this weird thing about foreign people coming here and doing shit that makes us look bad and can't imagine the same level of seethe at a British person doing it.

Posing with the animal is a bit classless I'd agree but at the end of the day what does it really matter? As long as the meat doesn't go to waste, the hunt is managed properly and everything is done properly with the correct permits for firearms etc I don't see the issue.

But I don't like the idea of Scotland becoming famous for people all over the world to come and shoot, not because it's Shan on the animals but because I don't want Scotland to become like Vegas where folk are just coming over here to shoot guns.

I find the way people get hung up on the death of wild animals very weird tbh. Hunting is rightly criticised around the world, especially in Africa where the whole system is entirely corrupt however I don't think that's comparable to shooting goats in Scotland. I remember when that lion or tiger got killed of the American dentist and the entire world absolutely kicked off, yet you'd struggle to get a quarter of the attention on some black guy getting shot of the police in the states or whatever. Not that I think that was okay, and it pissed me off too but I just think people need to look at it with a bit of perspective.

FWIW I'm entirely against “big game trophy hunting” and think it should be banned worldwide, I'm not defending it at all.

Just done a bit more reading on it. The goats are classed as invasive and they do cause issues with vegetation due to their grazing. They aren't farmed. There have been culls to reduce their numbers. Tourism companies set up hunts to catch them.

This lassie's website says -

"Along the way Larysa wants to encourage the public, especially kids and females, to go hunting and experience the great outdoors.

"Whether it's teaching them to shoot a gun for the first time, or hunting alongside her for an amazing trophy, it will be nothing less than an extreme adventure".

So I think that while hunting them isn't necessarily a bad thing, the way she has done and and why she has done it is bad.

Hate to break it to you guys but people have been coming from all over the world to shoot stags in Scotland for donks. They pay a huge price to do it as well.

What's the difference if you use both meats for food?

There are either legitimate reasons to kill animals or there aren't. Trophy hunting is a terrible reason.

Because it's illegal to kill somebody's pet, and it's illegal to farm dog meat commercially.

If people want to kill wild dogs or cats to eat them, as long as it's done somewhere where it's legal I don't see the issue. I wouldn't eat cat or dog meat though.

On the whole I dislike trophy hunting but if it's a goat which you're going to eat and it's an invasive species then don't really see the problem. I think it's weird as fuck to take the horns or the skull or whatever home but it's just a byproduct of the kill. Thousands of animals are killed in horrendous conditions in slaughterhouses so just think it's a bit hypocritical to act like we're above it all when we eat meat.

Some poor farmer made a few extra bob from some American that wanted to shoot annoying goats on his land, goats that he would have had to go out and destroy anyway. And folks are complaining.

Aye we're not actually disagreeing on anything other than I don't think eating the meat justifies what is essentially a trophy hunt. The rest I agree.

Aye I don't think we are disagreeing that much. For me hunting is fine as long as you are eating the meat, and I don't really care if you take a bit of the animal home to show your weirdo pals. I think you don't like the fact that people are coming with the intentions of taking a bit home.

My opinion doesn't carry over into exotic animal hunting though, I hate seeing rhinos etc killed for their horns or whatever as they are endangered and should be protected. Goats taste class though

It's genuinely astonishing that you're a lawyer. Mind blowing.

You think there's a vakuable comparison between taking pleasure in killing, and taking pleasure in eating something that's been killed.

Imagine not instantly seeing through that. Now, - private schooling aside - you've had a tertiary education valued at hundreds of thousands of pounds. An education based on building, evaluating and deconstructing arguments and you can't spot the flaw in that equivalency.

I'm watching someone right now on FB live about to blast a seal in teh face with a .303.

Seal didn't come to the breathing hole or if it did it didn't come up for air. Ice is still very thin at this time of year and they can sometimes see the darker shapes around the hole (hunter, snowmobile and sled), and/or hear the metal from the machine creaking as it cools down during the wait.

Breathing holes are very easy to spot on new ice.

How she frames the pictures is what I have issue with. It seems to me that she is trying to anger people while pretending to be promoting ethical hunting. It's crass.

Not the most professionally written piece but I'd say I probably agree with what they're saying.

As mags says people will be flying in to kill stags and other animals all year round, but takes an arsehole like her to ruin it for others. There will be places in Scotland that rely solely on hunting parties fuelling their economy.

Good question Morph. I could probably have assisted with a muskox kill but chose to take pics/video instead.

I could also have taken polar bear but didn't as the missus was never desperate for the meat, although young ones taste just like beef. She had her favourites (mainly seal & narwhal, caribou to an extent depending upon availabliity) - what she was brought up on. I was always a bit surprised when she kinda shrugged her shoulders at polar bear because it tastes great as far as I'm concerned; maybe she never got any of the good meat growing up.

So while I could have I didn't feel right about bear as it wasn't specifically for immediate family. Plus she had cousins that always went bear hunting ever year so extended family always had access to it. They're not difficult to hunt ordinarily unless you follow them into rough ice in dark winter where it can get a bit spooky.
