He looked a lot better when he (and the team in general) started to actually play in the second half instead of lumping it 20 yards in front of Morrison. Was quite weak at times, but he's still getting up to speed. He was one of few players who looked to make space to shoot.

He's a youngster and he's just coming back from a long lay off. If he's up to speed by Xmas I'd be surprised.

We should give him time, but I don't get your reasoning. Cochrane came in against Dundee and was up to speed straight away.
I think he needs time to adjust to Scottish football and to get to know his teammates, but you would be suprised if he was match fit by christmas? You surely can't be serious? As you said, he's a young guy.

Tbf it's some game to be chucked straight into. Think he was quite taken aback by the pace and aggression, but in the second half, his passing improved and he also started noising folk up, wee pushes and arguments and stuff.
Can tell he's got plenty ability. Few games he'll be fit and I reckon he'll be a bit of a stand out for us.
“What age was wee mcausland when he was running rings round this league?“

It took naismith 6 months and a preseason to get match sharp and show what he could do. Very serious. QED. It's spurious to say that because one player - one who's been at the club for years - slotted in to a win against the worst team in the league after a few months out you'd expect similar from one who's been at the club for a month or so and been out for 8 months in a derby.

I think we have different definitions of "match fit". We probably won't see the best of Clare until next season. But he can't be claiming by xmas that he isn't fit. He's got 10 year on Naismith. There would be no excuse for this.

I wonder what his best position is. Feels like he could offer more further up the park.

He can run around, but the difference between being fit enough to run around and sharp enough to be incisive is the difference between naismith last year and naismith this year. It goes beyond cardio - he needs to get his head up to the speed of professional football.

He seemed to do more damage when he cut inside and went on wee runs. Too soft for CM though I think.

How young is he? I may have been slightly harsh on him then as I was under the impression he was about 24.

People just call players whatever to suit their argument. AP called Wighton a child in another thread. Fuck knows where Clare plays. Played RB, RWB, RW, CM and CF for the Owls.

Nope. You absolute oddball.
You did however call him a skinny drowned rat and a jobby. Weird guy.
He's got 40 professional appearances to his name. That's the manner I'd call him a youngster. He doesn't have the experience to necessarily step in to a derby and perform.
If I saying that to suit my argument, then it's because it does.

If someone told me blind that we have a "youngster" on our books, to me that would suggest a youth player.

At 22 I'd expect the player to be coming in ready for first team football though, he's got his injury and fitness to deal with which is why he'll probably properly be judged next season. I wouldn't consider him a youth player or youngster though so needs to be able to slot right into the first team.

As 2na says he's played over 40 games in the English Championship and came here with a big reputation. Should be ready to kick on. I'd agree that we will see the best of him next season but not for fitness reasons.
