He has a blunt manner about him but I'd rather he was truthful than the jokes in Westminster kidding on this is going away for Christmas.

He's said much, much worse throughout. Some folk said that he said that having any Christmas at all was a 'fiction' or that he had taken it upon himself to 'cancel Christmas' which he didnt say at all. Smith came in, defending him and the media have taken offence. I believe there was some other issue about him blaming 'older people' in Lanarkshire in the same interview, when he said that there was an increase in those 'slightly older than students' because there isnt a major student population there when asked about recent increases in positive cases.

And there's these examples of what he's up against:

https://twitter.com/jasonleitch/status/1...19616?s=20

https://twitter.com/jasonleitch/status/1...55648?s=20

https://twitter.com/Alan_Cochrane/status...57380?s=20

The media seem to wonder why Smith got defensive with his colleague.

Social media in its current form should be looked back on as a low point for humanity.

Absolutely nothing wrong with what he's said there, sticking the fear up folk and telling them that's the cost if you don't buck up your ideas now is exactly what's needed.

You can guarantee the majority of folk up in arms haven't heard or read what he actually said.

Folk will go about Christmas how they usually do, regardless of what the restrictions might be.

Everyone up in arms at their Christmas being ruined while those of us who have had deeply traumatic years on a personal level, and always knew this Christmas would be awful, smugly reflect that we have had the last laugh Smug

That seems fair I would say. I wonder what help those in Level 4 would get though if Manchester only got 22million. Would it be coming for the Scottish Government or from Westminster?

Also, assumed level 0 would be no restrictions and life is back to normal - which we're obviously no where near - so it's interesting to still see restrictions with alcohol sales. Hopefully most places start off at Level 2 and work their way down to 1 and possibly 0 by spring next year.

The levels of financial support, for businesses, was detailed in the briefing today. It'll come from the SG but Sturgeon was clear that this money will only be there when its there - if it runs out before being back to 'normal'/allowed to open, then there's nothing extra coming from London at the present time.

Ah right, I didn't see any of the briefing just got sent the photos. Did she go into any detail of what the restriction differences between level 1 and 2 were? If it's a different curfew type thing?

Think it's pretty clear we'll be level 3 until next year.

She was hesitant to say anything firm because Parliament might vote against it but Level 1 is roughly where we were around August (I think she said). Those outside the Central Belt are currently under what Tier 2 may look like and Central Belt Tier 3.

I think it'll be mainly level 2 to start with, especially outside the central belt, with quite a few places going level 3 within a fortnight. We'll likely get a couple of level 4's in the cities too.

Think changing to the tiers opens the door to more localised restrictions rather than this blanket “central belt”/health board level restrictions, hopeful that some of the Lothians could sneak back into tier 2 looking at the case numbers, Glasgow has no chance of being anything lower than 3 for the foreseeable though.

Yeah they'll probably do it town by town now, like they did at the start when they kept Annan, Gretna and Dumfries locked down.

Level 2 is comparable to what the restrictions are for outside the central belt and Level 3 is comparable to the restrictions within the central belt.

Just realised Jeff has basically said that a few posts above.
