It is obviously horrendous that women routinely feel scared when they are walking home etc, and venting about that / highlighting their experiences is absolutely understandable and right when a case like this is in the news. Still, I've seen the same thing - not all men do, but all men can so shut up and don't say anything, and then WHY IS IT ONLY WOMEN TALKING ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES. Maybe because you told them to shut up, idk? I saw a prominent Scottish journalist/writer just straight up tweet "It's all men, actually" - locked her account so the only reply is a guy saying spot on, this should be the default position - and I just don't see how that kind of thing is anything other than counterproductive.

There's always going to be idiots on Twitter so probably pointless focusing on the tweets where women are saying ridic stuff like that.

Personally when this stuff comes up and women are talking like “men do XYZ” I don't really take offence or see it in any way directed at me because I know I'm not like that.

See when people say “I'm sick of women having to modify their behaviour when walking the streets at night”. In my experience all the people I know who were randomly attacked have been men, one resulted in permanent brain injury.

Yes women are much more likely to be sexually assaulted, but as a man you constantly have to keep your wits about you. The phrase “fuck you looking at?” when you aren't even looking at anyone is commonplace for men walking home on their own faced with a group/gang.

It's just strange that everything has to be instantly politicised these days. Not very nice for the woman's family when their loved one is not even buried yet and there's cretins having shouting matches about the whole thing all over social media.
