Begbies points a good one, the games we choose to play these guys in are mental.

You'd think you'd play them in the “easier” games alongside an experienced player but we chuck them in against Ibrox and parkhead. Did it with Smith, Moore, Henderson, Brandon, Cochrane and probably others I've forgot

That's the last 3 really promising youngsters I can think of (Paterson, Hickey and Cochrane) that have shown no intention of signing a contract once they have broken through. Different circumstances with Cochrane, since we punted him out on loans and deemed him not good enough for the Championship, but there needs to be something rotten about the club that players want to leave.

I guarantee the average Hearts fans will just put it down to a lack of loyalty from the players, but it just seems like more evidence that Hearts under Budge is miserable Monty Oh Well

Cochrane said it in a podcast interview.

Such a waste Monty Oh Well

Was it really worth blundering through the Championship to pass up a golden opportunity to give youth players a lot of game time?

That always sticks in my craw as he got thrown in  at the deep end and didn't look out of place at ER although his legs went in the second half and he got subbed.

Can't remember if we got our standard humping in the parkhead game but there was a clip of him turning players inside out.

Never seen in the first team again Monty Oh Well

Was it Lewis Moore who used to appear every time we went to ibrox?

Aye Moore at Ibrox was the norm. Such a stupid policy.

Is Connor Smith still here?

Smith is apparently on loan at cove rangers now  Jezza

We don't have a plan for how to deal with our youngsters but we don't even have a plan for how to set up our first team each week either so it's hardly surprising. Putting levein in the dugout has set us back years.

Either every single young player we bring through g
has an attitude problem or the problem is elsewhere.

It's possible Cochrane's attitude is off, but when you look at how many young players we bring through seem to have a dodgy attitude that stops them fulfilling their potential (Walker and Nicholson stick out), it has to be down to something in the culture at the club.

Cochrane is the biggest waste of a talented youth player I can remember. Balling at 16 and then bombed for 4 years Warnock

Was on a course ran by someone who had done some work with the coaches at Hearts. When chatting about it, he mentioned they thought Billy King had a bad attitude and refused to follow instructions. The work that this guy did was to try and show the coaches that there are different learning styles and communication techniques that are more (or less) effective with various people.

Could be entirely unrelated to your point, but to me it suggests that for all the talk of progressive, modern methods, there's actually a staid culture in the "football department".

I ended up in Billy Kings company about 3 years ago on a night out at the festival and must say he was the most pleasant footballer I've ever met, he was polite enough to tolerate my hearts jammie wearing but also refused to slag the club or coaches despite his friends egging him on, pretty certain he was on loan at the time either to ICT or Rangers as well, absolutely loved Hearts

I never suggested he couldn't be arsed.

He definitely said in the interview, and I've seen it from Levein and Neilson as well, that Hearts wanted him to bulk up. For whatever reason it hasn't happened and that will be the reason he doesn't make it. You can draw your own conclusions on why he hasn't managed it but he has the best facilities and experts available to help.

I'd never have had Billy King down as one of the kids with an attitude problem.
