Free games are the future because they rake in the cash of the wee monthly subscriptions they run, I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see fifa eventually go the same way or at the very least the ultimate team mode being offered as a separate free to play game.

Didn't really work out for Champ Man. Released a 'pay what you want' version in 2010. Didn't realease a 2011 version

Champ man a bit different though, it's not really got the platform to take advantage of that model but PES/fifa does. Predominantly single player games will continue to be released as they are (or on a subscription service) but online games will go down the free route.

Games as a service is defo going to be the norm very soon, tbh it already is for a lot of online games. I think that's Netflix looking to get into the space as well, and with things like game pass taking off the days of spending £60 a year on a recurring title are coming to an end. There's more money to be made churning out pointless cosmetic shit disguised as updates and add ons than creating new games every year.

I was surprised the new battlefield wasn't completely free or had a free mode, but it is going to release day 1 on game pass.

While PEA is dead, the free to play move is not what killed it, this is an attempt to resuscitate the game and it's a pretty clever one. Fifa have been saying they'll move to a subscription model for a while so interesting to see PES get in there first with free to play. I wonder if they'll be able to secure more licensing with this business model.
PES has good gameplay so exposure to a large audience and casual gamers who just want to play a football game without committing 60 quid is pretty nice.

Haa, it actually gets good reviews.
All the licenced gear and i think you have to deal with customers etc.
