Just reading about Afghanistan

Taliban have taken every single key city apart from Kabul, which I think they've pretty much taken at this point now.

What an absolute mess. I used to watch all these documentaries about Afghanistan and Iraq and the ones over the past few years have all spoken about the shambles it was trying to train the Afghan army so they can defend the place once the western forces leave. Guessing that's it all come to a head and fallen off a cliff now

The definition of sold a pup by our leaders. An absolute shambles but you can only hope the lasting legacy is we don't ever dive in to a war like that again but I won't hold my breath.

We should be providing refuge for all the Afghans that require it but it won't happen.

If nothing else it might concern some of the more 'British' people in this country that thousands of young men are now having to come to terms with the sacrifices they have made are for absolutely nothing.

Not sure about that because a lot of what I've seen from those sorts is just “well we couldn't stay in Afghanistan forever, this is all the Afghan gvts fault!”  

Just another notch on the bedpost of Britain for countries we leave in an utter mess, sure it won't be the last.

Is the UK currently in the process of taking troops out or have we been out for a while? Whole thing seems focused on US atm

The UK has only had a few hundred people there, which will be mainly special forces and intelligence types. The whole NATO force remaining there was around 2,500 but from what I've read, that is sufficient to stop the Taliban taking over.
