My mate's family just tested positive and he reckons it was one of the kids school party. However, it could have been numerous places he was at over the weekend. The difficulty about "just shut the schools" is this line is mainly said by folk without kids. If you shut the schools you need furlough as theres no way the majority can look after/school kids, and work remotely.

The issue with furlough/getting assistance is that the Scottish government are making decisions which are ahead of / not backed by the UK government at the moment.

Some people with kids may find themselves out of a job as more businesses go under over the next couple of months.

It's a vicious cycle I agree but I'm sure businesses would be more inclined to be flexible with the schools closing than facing more restrictions upon their revenue streams.

I'd rather target hospitality sector than our kids education tbf.  Warnock

This Omicron thing.  Special Literally does nothing to anyone apart from if you got the English jabs. Should never have taken supplies of the English jab.

The wife is wfh until the second albatross around my neck comes in March. Couldn't give a fuck if they shut schools.

Keep the vaccine programme rolling along I say. Winnie has snow on the roads, I've got variants.

Kids missing out on watching Frozen, Home Alone and The Grinch on repeat for three days Sob

Could this mean we have the worst attainment levels in the world next year!? Eek

It would make more sense to close schools for all years other than S4-S6 as they need as much time as possible.

Let's be honest, they aren't closing schools as a lot of parents see school as little more than free childcare and they'd have parents raging if they shut them now.

It can't be for health and safety reasons - they are charging ahead with having adults mix with 150+ households 2 days before Christmas. Despite what looks likely to be guidance that suggests limiting the households your interact with.  Special

Aye surely rightfully though? Laugh

If you shut the schools last minute and then offered no financial support to the people who'd need to take time off work + the businesses that would lose their staff who are parents then I'd say you'd have a right to be annoyed personally Warnock

Perhaps, but the government shouldn't kid on that it is some serious variant if they are sending adults to COVID breeding grounds with a wee cloth mask for protection.

It's either serious (close the schools) or isn't (continue on as normal). It can't be 'hey [teacher] it is dangerous for you to mix with 4 or more household at the pub, but you can spend hours upon hours in close proximity to hundreds of people from different households.

It makes it a political decision, rather than one based on health and safety.

I dunno if I really agree with that. I don't think it's as simplistic as serious=shut schools, not that serious=business as usual.

For a while the measures not really been about the direct danger to our lives either but more about keeping the NHS from being overwhelmed while managing to keep as much open as possible.

Tbf I thought we had some sort of tier system and if things got bad again we'd just go back to whatever level is suitable but that seems to have been binned Laugh

There's no way she could close anything because there's no money to support affected businesses. All she can do is big up the booster and tell folk to be sensible (lol).

She's just not decided what those restrictions are yet. But you can guess from the tone it's bookings and restricted households in pubs.
