I'm with you on the moving abroad. Going to wait till kids are a tiny bit older. Only offers so far have been for dustbowl's like Dubai and Doha but my current boss reckons he can't get me a job somewhere else

Tbf one mate who moved to Dubai has just sold his Aston to upgrade to a ferrari, he also has 2 Range Rover sports. But then he works 6 days a week and if a project comes up he has to cancel holidays and so on. I'd do it though to make serious bank and then set myself up for a great life somewhere in barcelona or ibiza. His problem is he always wanted that glamorous car lifestyle so his money is coming in and going out, though he is definitely saving as well. If you go out there and rein it in a bit, but still have a good life, you would be able to save a large amount of cash.

I know of people who do it properly. They work in Geneva but live in Chamonix. Commute (not too far to commute) mon-fri and ski every weekend. Absolute heaven, and a beautiful part of the world in summer as well.

Exactly. He's got himself a job in Geneva and only sees it when he's actually working. In fairness I know another couple who worked in Geneva for 2/3 years and left because they couldn't deal with how stereotypically dull the social life was, but as you mentioned it's still a great base for the Alps, Côte d'Azur, northern Italy etc.

More and more I think about it I wonder whether it's worth hanging around here. Local DJ parties and cafe culture versus police scotland giving you a fine for drinking a beer with your BBQ in the rain. 2 bed flats with a roof terrace versus a small shoebox in london at more than twice the price. 12 or 14 hour working days versus a siesta in the middle of the day. The fruit and veg, the great food, the weather, man the fucking weather, all so much better on the continent.

When I was over in Ibiza I started wondering about the affordability of moving the missus (and potential children) out there and then commuting back for the week. After reading this I'm going to start giving it serious consideration.

Been wanting to live in Valencia for ages now. Got the ball rolling with TEFL but need to get my finger out.

Boy I know moved to Barcelona last year and absolutely loves it. Had another mate of mine over with him for 2 weeks during Primavera and it just generally sounded immense.
