I really don't get that, so unnecessary as well.
Games gone.

It does seem a lot, even at a top academy at the top level, for a laddie that's just turned 16 being nicked from up here. Unless they rate him as one of their top prospects already. The boy Nypan they signed from Rosenborg is supposedly on around £10k a week but he had a lot of first team games already. Some deal for Keir if he's matching boys like that.

I don’t really see the point in the academy these days tbh - spoke about it the other day but what chance do you have when you do have these top talents in your academy that would get hoovered up before they hit 18
It’s not even these very top teams just EPL academies in general are poised to take your best prospects. Then we are left with a crop of players that have so much developing to do before they get close to first team football, often needing a few seasons before they’re good enough for regular football and in that time JTA has identified about 100 players that could come in immediately with a better chance of a sell on. I want hearts to be the place the best young players come through but even if Jamestown works perfectly every season we’re never going to be a team to compete salary wise with EPL clubs. Young scottish prospects disappearing away into English academies for cash instead of playing senior football earlier in their career could fuck the scotland NT in the long run. Probs already is.

I still think the Academy has it's purpose, youngsters still want to play for Hearts and I think it's good for the overall community aspect of the club to have this in place. I would say also that just because players do end up getting signed from us there will still be players who come through and still can do a job for us. We're a Scottish team and we still need to have a core of Scottish players, ideally with players from our youth system. If we were to bin that off I feel it would be an own goal.
I do think the compensation system needs to be completely overhauled, particularly when it comes to English teams poaching players.

Seems like every 5-10 years everyone decides to get rid of / overhaul the academy / U21 / reserve / elite development system. So fuck.
Just bin it off. If I didn't get to make it as a pro at Hearts, no young Jock kids should imho.

Tbf that fell through because they ended up signing someone else so he ended up at Wigan.
Just surprised you weren’t one of the offenders.

Vast majority of our young players are destined for careers in the lower leagues and can often take them into their 20s to establish at that level. The ones that go to England are the ones who’d have more chance of actually breaking through into our team early like Wilson. I was thinking about the compensation thing as well and you’d need an agreement between FA’s and not sure the English FA is going to sign something that makes it harder for their clubs to sign players so it’s probably a no go that.

Chat that we're getting 3 home games after the split because we only got 2 last year? I'm too lazy to check if that was the case last year.
02-25-2026, 12:13 PM
Na we had 3 last year in the bottom 6. Had 2 the year before that in the top 6.
Someone is going to get shafted.
02-25-2026, 12:15 PM
Think it might be rangers as they’ll have had more home games than away or so I was hearing on some YouTube thing.
02-25-2026, 12:25 PM
We're only due to get 1 home game after the split as it stands, highly likely we'll be playing Motherwell or Falkirk at home for a 3rd time. Doubt they'd flip both of them.
02-25-2026, 12:28 PM
We’ll have Rangers and Falkirk at home and the rest away. Unless McKinley can pull some strings.

It's clear by now that Shankland is not a natural athlete and doesn't recover like a natural athlete either.
I just hope somehow he can hit the ground running when he's eventually back.

Apparently the players have noted the Steinwender abuse and not happy about it. Especially the Epsteinwender/Hitler shit being posted.
Well respected member of the squad, trusted by Del and they are not happy with the online abusers.
