Not really much in it tbh. Speaking about challenging again and winning silverware next season which is good.
Basically said the deal was the only way we could get Shankland and it was proven to be the right move. Didn't touch on why it was reported as a 3 year deal by Hearts which I think should be addressed.

Pretty obvious why they wouldn’t say “btw he can go to Rangers for nowt after a year, otherwise it’s shree years” at the time of announcing it imo.

I don’t know why folk are getting hung up on it being announced as a 3 year deal
If it was a 3 year deal but had a release clause of £3m would people still make an issue of it? Fact is it was a 3 year deal but had a treacherous rat clause, if no one had come for him this summer then he’d be here another 2 years

Probably all our players have various clauses in their contracts that aren't reported on (some in their own interests, others in those of the club), so it's normal not to report on these things. It'd also just be odd behaviour to publicise a clause like that
Even if Shankland's agent would've made clubs aware anyway, the fact your best player will be available free of charge obviously isn't something you shout from the rooftops. The clause left us looking very tinpot, keeping him for another season was also obviously the right decision, not much more you can say than that.

I suppose there werent many options but there’s just something that feels a bit dishonest about it. Shanklands agent would have told rangers the second the deal was signed so I don’t see it as a big secret.
Maybe a leak from the club to make sure the fans understood Shanklands lack of commitment but fuck it, it’s done now.

Am I going mad? It wasn’t a 3 year deal and there was no clauses.
It’s been revealed it was a one year deal with a 2 year option. The fans (who own the club) were lied to and told it was a 3 year deal. We were all preparing for Shankland to either stay or for Rangers to make a 4-5 million bid for him ( or him to bang them in at the WC and attract more interest). Instead he swans out the door on a free. Can folk stop saying he had a ‘rat clause’ that was what we initially thought because we were so in the dark/lied to about the contract. You can’t bullshit the fans on basic financial things, the Bduge era really ripped the arse out of that ‘fan owned not fan run’ mantra, it better stop, moving forward. We had to endure Levein for 5 years and relegations because of the lack of accountability from those ‘running’ the show. I thought we were done after the Critchley debacle, but there’s still a hangover of senior staff doing what the fuck they want.

We are in the dark about every player contract tbf, we're never going to really know what money or deals players have. At best you get told they have a sell on fee but you never hear what it actually is.
I have no issues with hearts here they didn't have a lot of options, shankland is a wee tinpot rat prick though.

It’s basic as fuck. I like Joneseh but that’s a wee black mark there. I’m content to blame pie man on this occasion though.

Karma has a habit of catching up with people.
Fingers crossed first game of the season is Rangers at Tynecastle.

We do though, this is an anomaly - every single contract weve had transparency on the length. Someone in the comms team has made an arse of it, it’s not the end of the world and doesn’t change the fact that rat shanks only signed on after he got his wee promise he could get to the team that didn’t want him.

Del-icious dateline='[url=tel:1780401378' Wrote: 1780401378[/url]'] There shouldn’t be anomalies imo. It’s easy to be transparent on things that are easy. Moral fortitude is only tested in tricky situations and they failed. “Oh let’s not tell the fans this time, it might cause issues”. I’m sure we were very transparent about the new stand build apart from the information on how Budges family got the contract to fuck up the build and skyline lounge. Good to know they will tell us things apart from the times when they don’t want to. Eh no, they have a duty to disclose information every time. No anomalies.

The way it was discussed in the interview was if he had a successful first year there was a risk of losing him, also that Rangers have signed him for an undisclosed amount speaks more to it being a release clause rather than claiming it was at the completion of his contract

If there was an undisclosed fee I do tend to think there was a release clause rather than it being a 1+2 but then did someone not say that Jones says in the video he doesn’t know why it was reported as a 3 year?
I genuinely couldn’t care either way, hearts were backed into a corner because Shankland is an ambitionless small minded weasel who was desperate for rangers when they didn’t even want him. Hearts will grow, the fat slugs career is basically over now.

The way I understood it from how the in the know podcaster types were talking, is there was a small window at the end of the first year where he can leave for free. A week or something. To me I'm not sure how that can be described as a shree year deal but there you go.
It probably wouldn't have hurt Jonesey to say this wasn't communicated well enough but he decided to defend it. Maybe Pieman 2 can explain it better once he is finished defending the SFA against Hearts.

No, you said it was a 1 year with 2 year option as if it was fact, where did you see that? The Hearts and Rangers posts refer to undisclosed terms not upon completion of a contract, I don’t see anything that backs up the 1 year + 2 year option except online speculation

‘Undisclosed terms’ sounds to me like the biggest amount of cope/lies by the club TBH. I’ve never believed it for a second.
Edited to change that it was actually ‘undisclosed terms’ rather than ‘undisclosed fee’. Which in itself is suspicious. |
