The reason it's not been dealt with is that it's actually an important issue, too many politicians are too spineless to make a definitive statement on the subject. Either that or they're not actually capable of ironing out the complicated issues of consent, power of attorney etc. in which case, what are they for if not to negotiate that tricky legal path that is the only real block.
My gran died of Alzheimer's 14-15 years ago, I was just a kid then but even I could see she was just existing, but getting worse, in those last 6 months or so. Looking back on it now, rather than put my mum, her sisters and my grandad through the months of visits to the care facilities and then hospice it would've been much more dignified for all involved to just crank the morphine up high until she was gone.
