They should have got the goal-line technology sorted since that is empirical and immediate - which they did - and left it at that. Referees are human and will make mistakes from time to time, just like players do on a weekly basis.
At the end of the day it's a game of football, not a scientific experiment. A game without VAR and the occasional mistake is more entertaining than a game where you have to stop for 5 minutes so some guy in a secret room 100 miles away can draw a dotted line to work out if a striker's armpit might have been offside.
