22 million Americans have filed for unemployment in the last month  

Are they doing anything other than these £950 stimulus cheques?

Not right now.

One-time payment for those who qualify. Mrs Plissken and I don't because we lived outside the US until recently.

Stimulus cheques are for everyone. Unemployment is $600 a week, which is what the 22 million will have filed for.

A lot of conditions attached to it, you don't get it if you quit or if you make more than $500 a month elsewhere.

Are Americans no all on ridic wages though?  I'm sure their average wage is something like $60k so it makes sense their benefits would be higher compared to ours.

No, the average is high because of the absurd wealth of the top 0.1%.

About 45% of the population are effectively on poverty-level wages.

I thought it was $1200 per month?

It should be, but it's not.

The mental thing is how much economic activity that would encourage.
