Let's just get a state religion back on the go. Humans obviously feel the need to dump their complex emotions and worries on to an abstract image, so let's not reinvent the wheel.
'The war' is a solid death cult, fair enough. The royals are just fashion magazine fodder. Beyond that, the only thing to unite the nation is the NHS. Just institute any old religion and give people a vent, because if there's a need for empty stadia across the country to be quiet because one nice old man died in a year when 100k died then it says our society does meet our needs.
