The battle will be on to inherit the Trump base, Cruz and Hawley's stunts leading up the insurrection were for that aim. Neither has a fraction of the charisma of Trump nor can claim that outsider status so pivotal in his 2016 victory. Nikki Haley will be another contender for the nomination but I don't see her winning.
The GOP is pretty fucked just now, they can't hope to win a primary without the lunatic core (it's not a fringe anymore) but Trumpism is poison in a general election. Unless Biden royally fucks things, I can't see any one of the Republican nominees having much chance in 2024. Even then, he's getting a ridiculously easy ride from the media just now. Already backtracking on key campaign promises but simply not being Trump buys a huge amount of goodwill.
