62,000 there for the opening game between Orlando and New York. Kaka and Villa playing. Sky Sports backing the league. US mens team coming off the back of a pretty good world cup.

The sky's the limit for the yanks now, surely only a matter of time before they are the dominant force in world football?

I dunno if they'll ever become a dominant force in world football but they'll definitely continue to get better.

Football isn't ingrained in their way of life and I dunno if it ever will be. My cousin done some coaching over there and I went over and the mindset is just really different.

Lads here would give absolutely everything to be a footballer whereas over there it's not the same. What they will do is breed great athletic players. From what I seen they aren't the most technically gifted but they're all big and strong and can run and run without tiring.

I seen age groups from 12-19/20 and that seemed to be the trend across the age levels.

Folk slate them, but they completely underestimate the current level, and how much better it's getting quickly.

How does the salary cap work over there? Won't that limit any major expansion?

Slight tangent but read this yesterday, amazing how little he's done: http://grantland.com/the-triangle/freddy...-mls-2015/

The standard of football is still fucking abysmal.

The likes of Keane etc. are just there for a bit money and an easy life, don't give a shit about the football.

What you say is true but the hispanic population in America are seriously daft about their football and could add some of the passion, flair etc to the athletic players they churn out.

I think the concussion issue could turn a lot of people away from letting their kids play american football and seems more and more are moving towards football.

Definitely.

I used to turn my nose up at American football but when I went over I was really surprised. They actually have a decent knowledge of the game, their positioning is really good because they play offsides from the age of about 10.

Think a big problem for them is getting decent coaches. The age groups I seen were coached by British coaches so they're getting really good coaching but it's expensive.

The majority of american/mexican coaches I seen were fucking clueless. There was a Mexican team who's coach told a fat centre back to stay on the edge of the box and not move. Since they're playing offsides the other coach just stuck his striker up top and put balls over the top to him. The fat Mexican knew it was wrong but the coach was so stubborn he didn't want to admit it. There seemed to be a recurring theme with coaches that they wanted to all be tactical masterminds because they were playing against foreign/British coaches.

Im not too sure how the leagues work, but these were meant to be the better teams in New York and the surrounding towns/villages.

College football will be way different but it all starts with grassroots football and from what I seen they are getting it really wrong.

It has traditionally been a retirement home for older players but with the likes of Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, Kaka, Villa all going when they could still play top level in Europe, there is clearly progression.

Standard isn't any worse than Scotland/England outside of the top league tbh.

Isn't football the fastest growing sport over there? I'm pretty sure it's the most played sport at school level as well.

The names going over there now are getting bigger and bigger, Kaka is only 32 and he's gone there, that's a big sign of the progress.

The standards are hilarious still, tbh, mainly because there are a lot of genuinely very good players (even outside of the European semi-retirees), but then a huge gap in class, even within the same team a lot of the time. I'll never take a league seriously where Bradley Wright Phillips is one of the top centre forwards Laugh

I never understand this idea it must be pish because all the top European players go there when they are 'past it'.

Aye, because Lampard, Gerrard, Villa, Keane and Kaka wouldn't walk into any Scottish side. Or Championship side. Or could probably still play in the EPL/La Liga/Bundesliga if they chose. Yeah, they are going for the big bucks, but they improve the quality of the league. And as for the American players - they did make the World Cup knockout stages, further than any home nation (and Spain), so they obviously aren't that bad.

Their coaching is miles ahead of Scotland at least as well. On the internet, there are loads of good coaching session plans which are from the US, and lots of books written by American coaches. The effort they put into coaching means they will be improving a lot over the next decade. A lot of British coaches in America, too, but they are just improving the quality of coaching.

Morph's example of coaching by putting a big lad at CB on the edge of the box - today I was coaching an u17s game and our team had concussions, bleeding noses, and massive gashes down their legs from 'challenges' by the opposition - the opposition scored twice by thumping the ball up the pitch as soon as they got the ball, and every time their defenders or goalkeepers got the ball they punted it over the fence. Anti-football pish.

Was watching Mean Girls recently. The soccer 'training' that was going on in the background of one of the scenes Warnock Football's by and large still a joke sport over there IMO. They don't get it.

I think a problem with a lot of youth football, especially at the younger ages is the coaches want to make it all about him.

Using that Mexican team as an example the big lad made it clear he wanted to push up the park but the coach was giving it "I'm the coach youll do as I say"

There's quite a big British influx of coaches over there and the kids seem to love it. They watch a lot of EPL over there so when you've got coaches from Manchester/London coming over they absolutely love it and will hang on every word they say.

I think the problem with folks perceptions of the MLS is they only know the has beens that play there and the leagues standard is based on those individuals. There was a lot of it on the TV when I was there and sure the centre pieces where players like Keane, Henry etc but there were still a lot of decent players I had never heard before who were playing some good football.

Well, when Lindsay Lohan soccer documentary Mean Girls can't get it right, I suppose there's no hope.
