Celtic have been granted permission to install “safe standing” and become the first professional club in the United Kingdom to move away from traditional seated areas within football stadiums.

The newly constructed area, which will accommodate 2,600 supporters at first, could potentially be in place for the start of the 2016/17 Premiership season.

Wonder if Mrs Budge will be considering this - not sure where the most sensible place would be at Tynecastle.

A great way to increase Tynecastle capacity to 20,000+ without building a ridiculous white elephant stand.

Good news though - would make the (remote) prospect of me going to a Hearts game far more appealing if I knew I could stand.

Does 'safe standing' not just essentially take up the same space as a seat would? Not like you could sway down the front and give Scott Brown a lollipop. Wonder if you would have to pre-purchase your standing space ... which would make it pointless in mine eyes.

Anyway, here's hoping they Mhanks install it in the upper tiers.

Fuck sake Warnock

I don't really see the attraction myself but fair play for bringing it in, if it gets more fans going to games then it can only be a good thing.

Sure it works out at 1.5 people per seat in the new safe standing areas so would be worth bringing it in, I'm sure Ann's got it all lined up and ready for next season.

Pretty positive safe standing takes up like 1.5 seat spaces.

It's not like 1000 seats = 1200 or even 1000 standing spaces.

I'd like to go to the football and stand without being moaned at but don't think id like to see Tynecastles capacity to suffer for it.

I think you've got it the wrong way around. For every seat you get 1.5 standing spaces.

N lower and other parts of Auld Bertie are basically unofficial standing sections already. As well just leaving it at that IMO. I prefer standing to sitting at the game but 'organised standing sections' where everyone has their own designated standing space and hand rails strikes me as pretty naff.

Would a standing ticket be cheaper than a normal ticket? Reckon they should charge more for it and rinse the fuds for all they can

But the safe standing means you get a wee pull out chair behind you so how would that work? Everyone will be allocated a space/chair it won't be a free for all like the terracing days.

Pretty sure the chairs aren't as big as the normal seats. It's definitely 1.5 people per normal seat, Otherwise there's not much point in reducing capacity jut to pander to people wanting to stand when folk pretty much do that already anyway.

Fair enough.

Personally don't really see the point in it as youre allocated a space anyway, not really like you can move around/congregate in a big area with all your mates without buying tickets altogether.

Just seems like a half arsed attempt at bringing back the terracing which no one under the age of 35 really gives a fuck about Laugh

It works in Germany etc because of the type of fans they have, here it just promotes they wee plastic ultras that no one wants here :laugh;

Pandering to the Green Brigade me thinks.

Hope they charge the cunts even more to stand in the new area.
