I fancied him to bottle it tbh, he's a good player but you never fancy him when the going gets tough, that putt for par on the 18th you just knew he was missing that.

Golf’s biggest bottle merchant. 159 starts

2 Dumfries and County boys in the final qualifying for The Open and Syme also going for a place. A BREEDING GROUND for good golfers, myself included obviously.

My mate has just bought a new set of clubs and is wanting me to get back into it, but you're talking the best part of a grand and a half before you've even found a pair of tartan trousers.
I know they've got the upkeep of the ground to pay for, but it's still ridiculous, when you think about it. Walking around fields with metal sticks, trying to put a wee ball in a hole. It should be included in your council tax.

Get yourself to clubs for cash at Loanhead industrial estate and have a look. Cracking wee shop for used gear. A lot of it still in good knick.

If you're into it, how long do you spend a week on it?
I just can't imagine getting away with that and day sessions for the football.

It’s one advantage of shifts tbf. I can play during the day through the week before it’s time to get the kids from school, and if I play at the weekend I try and get it done early doors. Although the week day golf gets less and less during the summer holidays.
It’s the one hobby/sport that I’ve got now so the mrs doesn’t mind too much as long as I’m no out every night and not seeing the kids If we’re off together when the kids are at school she’ll sometimes come with me if I’m playing on my own. Just for the walk, then have a wee coffee or a bit lunch in the clubhouse.

Im off every Friday, so I could get a weekday membership for cheaper, now that i think about it.
But then yer mates are all at work... so like.. aye, nothing ever works out haha. Aye, Khali, I had a set of made up random clubs at one point. I'd actually like to get fitted for set at some point, so that don't have any excuses to use for being shit.

I usually play early doors on a Saturday, course is quieter so get round in 3 hours and back home after a roll before 12. Occasionally throw a Sunday in as well if I'm not busy.
Couldn't do a late morning/afternoon anymore unless it was an outing, the time it takes to get round later on in the day is horrific.

My game goes to pot after 9 holes, probably because i'm unfit as fuck.
What's your most memorable shot? I once skelped a baw off the ground with a 3 wood (fiver off ebay) straight over a forest of trees and onto the green. I couldn't believe it, and will probably never do it again.

I'm a mental pygmy and will fold like a deck of cards if there's folk waiting behind.
Still get shudders of embarrassment from a packed clubhouse watching me sclaff it off the 1st tee into the bushes about 30 yards away Just picked my ball up and walked up the fairway. Total mental collapse.

Hahaha
Aye, I always feel like I don't belong on a golf pitch. All the stupid gear you have to wear inawl.

The Open
![]() I'll no be leaving from my sofa for the next 4 days. Boab, Rose, Scott, Aberg are my semi realistic chances at winning some money. Some wild bet on Darren Clarke at 2500/1 just in case he gets into the top 12
07-17-2025, 09:33 AM
Boab, rose and hovland. Will probably put another wee one on tomorrow

Adam Scott as my sensible(ish) pick and Mackenzie Hughes for a tap 12 at huge odds. Probably fire a couple more on before the weekend action.

Realised I picked some Norwegian boy Reitan as well as an outsider because he did alright last week.
Some decent scoring so far. |
