Who knows what goes on in these countries, it's a different world with rituals and religious nonsense ruling the roost, you just have to look at the HIV ridden guy who was asked by families to pump their 12 year old daughters as an example of how fucked up it is, i imagine there is a lot more crazy shit goes on that none of us know about yet.

The importance we place on certain parts of the globe is quite odd I agree. Think we talked at length about it after the Paris attacks in contrast to coverage of middle east based terror attacks. The closer to us it is is physically, the harder it hits us, I feel. Burma is very far away.

This is definitely a part of it, particularly in terms of terror attacks which take place in the west: people with similar lifestyles to us being killed while doing things we might be doing is closer to home (literally and figuratively) than peasant villagers in Burma having their homes burned down. It's regrettable but probably a fact of life. Most of the coverage of the Rohingyas that I've seen is from Muslim news sources, which actually supports your argument: it feels closer to home to Muslims because they share the same religion.

I don't think that's all it is, though. News coverage inevitably reflects the concerns of our governments, not so much because of some conspiracy theory as because they're so reliant on 'official' sources (and as a result scared of doing anything that might put their noses out of joint). Again, I'm not saying anything new or exciting here but every so often something reminds me of how much of our understanding of what's going on in the world comes from what is important to our governments - not in the sense of passively accepting their policies, but of literally not even knowing about things that aren't major concerns to them.

T in the Pee seems to be on the verge of biting the dust.
Tenants seem to have dropped it and now talks about 3 days of gigs without camping in Glasgow

1.3 billion for roads. Not sure if it's devolved but seems the new chancellor seems a totally different type from osbourne

To be fair the road tax take is going up massively in April.

Everyone is buying low emission cars now so they need to change it back off a 'green tax' to start raking money back in

I'm sure I read the new "VED" was proper road tax and used to justify it was the spend on roads although can't find that info now.

Fairly steep rise for many.

My Current car which is zero tax would be £140 a year for anyone buying after April. Folk with a nice fast car could be paying £450 a year and into the thousands in the first year.

Given how many cars will go from being £0/30 to £140 a year its clear too see how loads extra can suddenly be spent on roads.

Think they've done that for 2 year now already?

It's the same folk that run Titp, wouldn't surprise me at all if they binned the festival to focus on the weekender.

I was driving past it at the time, bouncers were launching everybody out and everyone was spilling out onto the road.

Bit of a mess, police everywhere.

It's pretty sad to see the demise of T in the Park, I've had some amazing weekends there. I'm not sure if it's just because I'm older now but I remember there being a real buzz around it and pretty much everyone I knew going. I remember my sister camping outside overnight to get tickets one year and how it was a bit of a stress sometimes to get camping tickets. I'm pretty sure they struggle to sell out nowadays, even at the smaller site.

I reckon it's definitely time to call it a day though. If it meant that there was demand for Rockness again I'd be happy with that tbh, although my camping at a festival days are probably over.

Think wickerman has had to close its doors, not sure if its related but there was a big thing about policing costs crippling large events in Dumfries.

T has had its day. Nothing more than a weekend away for the dregs of society now. They've been rotating the same shite headliners for years as well.
