No it's not a who do you think would win out the two!
The thread on the Preston game got me thinking. I recall being around 6-7 and being taken to games with my dad when skinheads had pretty large numbers. I recall several games involving trouble however I clearly recall the derbies when they'd go charging passed looking for bother. I also clearly remember our support effectively shouting for them to 'kill the hibby bastards' and other words to that effect. I definitely don't recall a loathing or disgust at these individuals or their actions. In fact whenever a thread appears that mentions them you never see them being run down and people even generally have a laugh about their antics.
Fast forward a decade to the 80's and the emergence of the casual and it was a different matter. I clearly remember the general feel amongst our supporters as being a hatred/dislike for the casuals in our support along with the songs sung towards them.
Other teams seemed to accept their casuals/hooligan element as they had done their skinheads! I guess the question is why didn't we? Had they simply been a continuation of the skinhead and shaved their heads, dressed in doc martins, jeans and bomber jacket would attitudes towards them have been different?
I appreciate times change and attitudes change however did people not take to them merely because they seemed more Spandau Ballet than a bit rough n tumble?
