Crazy. Mad scramble for the 2nd Mercedes seat begins, imagine a lot of drivers are on the phone to their agents as we speak, Alonso especially.

It sounds daft to do at his age, but he must be absolutely loaded and if his ambitions are to win the world title then what else is there for him to do? Must be sick of Hamilton's antics as well Laugh

A few drivers will be gutted to have signed new contracts whereas others will be desperate for that seat.

Seemingly he struggled with the rivalry with Hamilton as they used to be best pals.

Bloody hell.

Something must've happened - I'm not buying his reasons.

Good for Nico Rosberg who, having reached the pinnacle of his field, clearly recognises F1 for the ruined by ITV, so boring it's unbelievable, obsessed with flogging cigarettes to kids in the Far East, joke sport which it very clearly is.

I'm going to watch cars going around a track at 200mph for 2 hours. HOW INCREDIBLY EXCITING.

PS. Bernie Ecclestone can get to fuck as well.

Yes, I'm sure the German/Finnish/Monte Carlo based Nico Rosberg was tuning into ITV in the early-mid 2000's. Special Cigarette advertising has been banned for years, btw.

Anyone tipping Alonso for the Merc seat (which I really wish he could get) has obviously forgotten about the last time Hamilton and Alonso shared a team.

I'd coax Button out of retirement for one season - he got on well with Hamilton and worked with Mercedes for many years with McLaren. Quite Good

ITV only 'ruined' (i.e. mildly inconvenienced with adverts) F1 for UK viewers, surely? :Laugh and as Scott said, they stopped advertising cigarettes years ago.

A great opportunity for someone like Bottas, if Mercedes could prise him from Williams. I'd love Verstappen to move over just to rustle Hamilton's jimmies jjay

Must be easy driving a formula 1 car, around the toughest tracks in the world at 200mph.

Not impressive at all. Tim

That's a good shout. Although I think Estaban Ocon may be more likely out of the two Manor drivers. He used to test for Mercedes and I think is faster than Wehrlein.

Esteban Ocon is a good driver but I think it's too soon.

Loads of drivers will be making themselves available though.

What a seat to get.

Paul di Resta in for Massa for qualifying and the race.

He's never driven the car.

If his teammate Stroll doesn't destroy him his career could be ruined.

He's the reserve driver, so has driven the car....
