Not sure what women walking with their keys in their hand as a weapon has to do with the amount of men raped per year.

The article is about things that men don't have to deal with, not things women have to deal with.

They're implying with their article that men are not victims of sexual assault.

The article is a lot of shite and pretty sexist, but I genuinely didn't take "men don't experience sexual assault" from it at all.

Im not even going to get into it because I posted the article to take the cunt out of it, not defend it Laugh

Come on Morph. You posted the article, then Barry made a valid comment on it, then you acted ignorant to the whole thing, even though you posted it.

The article is, incase you didn't read it, "32 Everyday Things Women Do That Men Don't Have To Worry About".

32 everyday things. Everyday things. Everyday.

A lot of them are the female equivalent of "you don't have to peel your bawbag off your leg on a hot summers day", that obviously aren't cross-gender, but then there's a lot that shows a certain arrogance/ignorance toward male sexual assault.

I mean the first 9 are pretty out there and specific I imagine to the one egotistical writer, but...

1. Carrying your keys in your hand as a “weapon” when walking alone at night.
2. And turning your headphones off to make sure you're not being followed.
3. Nailing the “I'm-walking-quickly-but-not-so-quick-that-you'll-sense-my-fear” pace when someone is behind you.
4. Calling friends when alone in a taxi/Uber in order to feel safe.
5. Or texting them your driver's details “just in case”.
6. Messaging them when you get home to let them know you're OK.
7. Sitting near other women on public transport to minimise the risk of being harassed/attacked.
8. Avoiding being out altogether if it's too early in the morning or too late at night because it doesn't seem safe.
9. Pretending to be on the phone in any number of situations to avoid harassment.

How are they female only? They're giving off the impression that all men are rock solid confident fighting machines who don't get the fear in any situation. If anything, most of these just show a sheer sense of paranoia coming from this lassie. I wonder if she's been assaulted before or she's just researched herself into a frenzy. It's not healthy to walk around thinking like she does. She never feels safe but to me that's not the fault of society as a whole, or applicable to all men and women.

Then you get shit like..

12. Staying silent when being verbally harassed out of fear if you fight back it'll turn violent.

Aye, only women shut up when psychos are yelling. Only women fear violence.

19. Pretending to be patient when you're interrupted/talked over repeatedly by men.

Yeah, only women have to feign patience.

20. Repeating yourself over and over again to get your point across.

never had to do that before. As a man, everyone bows to my every word and a single utterance of a point is always met with acceptance.

Which just completely invalidates all of her other points. It's a shit show of an article from a shit show of a clickbait site. But these are the opinions of the vocal minority on the internet, and it's the vocal ones that get heard. Usually they'd be left to their wee club to moan about men and share cat-rearing tips, but now they have a platform. That platform reaches the real world and affects the real world. People read shit like that and may come to the conclusion that there's a reason beyond her own paranoia to be afraid. But there's not. Not blanketly like that.

I'm not saying you're wrong that the article references a load of stuff that males experience too.

What I'm saying though is probably the one thing it doesn't actually refer to is rape or sexual assault. You can criticise it for loads of things (that's why I posted it) but it never makes a reference to a woman being raped or sexually assaulted. So going by the article of the title its not saying women experience rape and men don't.

Anyway I posted it to laugh at it and not defend it, if you think the article says something different that's cool but I'm not picking that angle up from it.

What do you think those first 8/9 points are referring to if not sexual assault? They in fear of being tickled late at night?

Sometimes your wee naive lost boy routine can get pretty frustrating Morph, so I'll agree it's not worth discussing.

Because rape is the only thing that can happen to someone walking alone at night that would make them feel intimidated?

The author of the article purposefully doesn't use the words rape or sexual assault and I think it's fairly clear why.

I completely agree with you that the title of the article is wrong, the article is interesting though because nearly all of those issues are mainly as a result of masculine culture.

If i'm carrying my keys as a weapon, or pretending to be on my phone it will be because some guy is having to prove himself or act the cunt for no reason whatsoever.

I guess it's less about feminism and more about addressing what is perceived as "masculinity" in our society and certain cultural behaviours within that which need to be addressed.

Sometimes the patriarchy damages men too. We have to live up to ideals, which unfortunately as a result can disproportionally effect women (not accepting no from a woman because it's hurt your male pride/shouting sexual innuendo at a lassie to get a high five from your pals etc...). I guess women sometimes ask themselves why they have to put up with all this shite as they don't have any skin in the game.

If it was just "shit women deal with" then fine. But implying that men don't have to deal with any of those 32 points shows just how disillusioned these people are. They have this caricature of the "white man" and just think that's how we all go about life. I've no statistics, but I think if it's just violence, not sexual violence, then men are far more likely to be attacked on a night out. Men tend to pick on other men to show how big and strong they are. Countless tales of random acts of violence on city streets directed towards men.

I agree with your last paragraph. It's pretty shitty of these women to blanketly tar men with the same brush whilst at the same time fighting for equality.

Nope, that's a problem only women suffer. Issues like these are why Emily Davison threw herself under a horse. These are proper feminist issues and should be taken seriously.

My ma was trying to get a price for windows or something like that, and I think 2 companies wouldn't come around to the house when she was in on her own because it was their policy.

Kept insisting my dad was there, what happens if you were single? Do these companies turn down the business because they're worried a woman could accuse them of something? Not sure if any of the tradesman on here have any policies like that in the companies they work for. It was ridiculous man Laugh
