Of all the things I would criticise Sean Clare for, getting too much leeway is definitely not one of them Laugh

Agreed on how weird it is that Levein has hung his hat on him so much though - how many players have we seen get binned for not showing enough hunger/effort for Levein's liking (he ripped guys like Milinkovic publicly for not working hard enough) and yet he wants to build the side around a guy who, being generous, is pretty languorous at best.

Mind we paid money for him  Warnock

Mind we supposedly beat loads of English clubs to his signature  Monty Chuckle

Mind he called himself Sean Flair  Zlat

Get him so far to fuck he's yet another imposter. He was only in the paper four days ago giving it this patter:

I don't think he can play centre mid in this or any league. He'd probably be quite good playing off of the strikers, but to fit him in there we'd need to change our whole system to accommodate him, and I don't think he's good enough to justify that.

I also don't get what Levein sees in him - he's pretty much the epitome of 'not a Levein player'.

I think you doth protest too much, Mak! Did you see the cross he played off the United boy for Irvine's volley goal last night; I know you refer to small details and give us a couple of examples but that was pure genius. Craig is justified.

He's better than Messi though.

Warnock

Just to clarify what I meant here, I agree that he doesn't in general - I was talking specifically about when people say things like 'you can see there's a player in there' or 'he clearly has talent'. We're so used to seeing big cloggers in this country that the bar for making that kind of statement is set incredibly low. Even if Clare did develop the physicality and 'bit ae dig' you need to do well in Scotland, he's still not producing those moments anything like often enough.

I've been in the “there's a player in there somewhere” camp for ages. I was even positive about the idea of him playing centrally but he needs to get all the way to fuck.

He's been largely decent this season, tonight he wasn't up to much though.

Couple of times you he carried the ball and you thought he just needed the confidence to go past the last man and have a decent strike. Looks lacking a wee bit in confidence.

It's a no from me. If he's not scoring his penalties, I dont see what he offers. Just a passenger most of the time and we cant afford passengers. Monty Oh Well

Same.

He shows decent technical ability at times but I don't see where he cements his place.

Maybe needs the right coach to get the best out of him. Just can't see it working out for him at Hearts.

'Good technique' is one of those things you say about a player who does very little while seeming to have a nice first touch. Don't think I've seen it used so much about an individual player since Ruben Palazuelos Heh
