Was definitely in the “not that excited or impressed by signing shankland” camp but I can see already that I was talking utter shite.

Tbh i'd not really seen much of him before, and thought he was just a wee penalty box striker, but he's such a good pler. Touch and control, superb, strikers instinct, but works hard as fuck as well, does a power of running and looks like a very intelligent footballer. His stint in Belgium has probably done him some good as well and he's at a great age. Can already tell he's going to be great for us.

A slight “I told you so” moment to the haterz, I backed him mainly because I follow Scotland a little more than a few on here (i.E. will watch all the shitty friendlies and diddier midweek nations league games) and in those appearances he had for national team I thought he looked really neat and tidy and didn't let himself down. I also knew that he carried the Dundee United team under Micky Mellon even when the goals dried up as I'd listen to sportsound podcasts when I was living abroad and he was their top player in the SPFL, not just in the division below.

I didn't know if he was going to be successful at Hearts but the disrespect for him was annoying (not from you) Belgian clubs don't drop a million on a player for a clogger.


I was excited about Shankland and Forrest coming to Hearts but I still believe they should be our two weakest signings not our strongest ones.
Seems like we are just banking the euro money instead of going out and buying real quality for our central midfield and right back area.

Don't think Shankland is great in the air though. He's not big and strong enough to be a target man but not quick or clever enough to be a guy that will run off defenders shoulders.
