Shankland 4 in 7 vs Boyce 27 in 68 ![]() Both score loads of penalties but Shanks scores striker goals whereas Boyce spends his time in midfield trying to be a 10 and then gets nosebleeds near the box. They aren't really the same player - so I think it's unfair comparing them completely but as far as goalscoring, Shanks has already shown he is better IMO.

Boyce is coming to the end of his career so you can give him a bit slack but if you can't do it in an aberdeen or hearts then where are you getting 20+ goals?

Boyce isn't scoring 20 goals in that Ross county team tho
![]() Aye he scored lots of goals in the past but we're talking about the players we have as they are now surely? Boyce has had to change as a player as he's got older, I still think he's one of the better players at the club in that number 10 role but folk go bananas that he's not scoring every week. We had a good run out him for goals, I think his return has still been decent overall and now he needs to play a bit of a different game which imo is just as important because we've not taken control in those positions since he's been injured. Remains to be seen what Shankland does but he's not even had a bad start - he's 4 in 8 in the league and has chipped in with a couple European goals. Would like him and Boyce in the same team so it's shite that he's picked up such a bad injury.

Boyce is a much better footballer than Shankland, Shankland is a better finisher than Boyce.
Shankland will probably hit 20 this season if he stays clear of injury, he's just not going to do much else outside of scoring goals. Which is obviously what he was signed for, it's just when he doesn't hit the net, you see how little else he contributes most games.

I must be seeing a different player, I always think Shankland looks like one of the more intelligent players on the pitch, the rare times the ball actually goes into him, he seems to do something productive with it.
Boyce got involved more because he was dropping into midfield and preferred to dance on the ball 30 yards from goal. That's useful too but I'd prefer my striker to be on the last man. This narrative that Boyce can play but doesn't score and Shankland can't play but scores, I think is wrong for both players and a lazy description of what's actually happening. Neilson isolates our CF, it's the same with every striker we've ever had under him. Only Osman Sow first time around could cope. Boyce and Simms tried their best. Defensive manager

It's just because we got beat we end up being very critical of players, we could get a result on Thursday with Shankland getting a goal and it'll be what a signing we made he should be in the scotch set up!! But we got beat so it's going to be he's shite and useless until we next get a win.

I'm not a big fan of stats, they don't show the full picture, but in this case, i'm willing to take them on board/troll like fuck.

Got to be honest I'm sick of this guy. He adds absolutely nothing most of the time. New striker needed in January.

He played quite well but lets be honest, that's the worst hatty you'll ever see

Gets himself in those positions when the service is there though and when's the last time we had that

Done well when he came on tbf. Does feel like a bit of a fake hat trick but it is what it is

Reliant on the old Gérard Pique's, but his movement was a lot better yesterday. Hopefully a boost to his confidence, as he looked totally bereft of it at Pittodrie.

His non-penalty goal was exactly what we want from him tbf. Amazing what getting a fast winger to the byline can do for a poacher.

Fuck having him fighting for the ball on the halfway line and holding it up. Give the ball to the wingers and have him standing in the box. Our set up has had him isolated and in the wrong positions.

Annoyed me to fuck we didn't put more balls across goal like that one Shankland scored from - he took that one well. I don't think it's a fake hat trick at all like you've still got to score them
![]() But aye so many times McKay had the ball and the full back will be making the run into loads of space and he chooses to come inside with it into loads of Celtic players. We're no going to play through them easy there and we already had scored from a ball across the box. Should've been targeting ralston all game after that because he could be beaten quite easily and then you just need to fire some dodgy balls across the box. |
