There’s quite a few who have proven beyond doubt they don’t have the ability to match our ambition. It seems pointless keeping the likes of grant and devlin around.

We need some horrible cunts with a bit about them. Your Rowles, Sibbicks, Devlins all seem like lovely guys which is a problem when you’re trying to win things. Basically need some Naismiths.

I’m no sure I can give you a player by player list of guys devlin has kicked and fouled through his time here but that’s his game

He’s pish I won’t disagree but he chases, hassles and winds up the opposition. I don’t think having these nasty guys changes anything, that rangers and Celtic team is capable of playing football around a “nasty” team

We have these plers in our team already like that and we’ve had teams in the past with more of them who have won fuck all anaw. Ultimately it comes down to their budget - we’ve had a wee purple patch against Celtic recently but people have seemingly decided we’re always quality against Celtic and shite against rangers. Our record against the pair of them is absolutely rotten, like the rest of the teams in the league. Nothing changes that other than sustained investment into the squad year on year.


I’d say if anything it’s not nastiness we need but far more athletic and intelligent players, with the emphasis on the intelligence . The speed of our game and the time it takes to make decisions is what has us so far away from the OF and teams at that level.

Hassling and winding up opposition isn't what I'm talking about tbh. That's a gimmick to cover up for his lack of ability.

I'm talking about Rowles 50/50 for the goal. We need aggressive players who will go through that and take everything. Serious lack of it in this team.

A horrible/nasty pler for me isn’t someone who commits to challenges like that though that should be the bare minimum for a centre half whether you’re a big horrible spade heid or a baller.

Defo more aggression needed in certain players but at the same time I’m not sure you’re going to coach that into a guy like Rowles. I agree with what you’re saying as well that there’s players that don’t match the level of ambition like grant and devlin but at the same time it’s only worth getting rid of them if we’re going to sign better and I’m no sure we necessarily go find better midfielders within our budget that easily. I’m no writing anybody off but I’m not convinced dhanda and penrice are going to be much better than what we have already either. Grant/devlin/dhanda are all squad level plers who are good options to have but we have so many of them at hearts and lacking in guys with that extra bit of quality like Kingsley for example.

Will be interesting to see where our summer signings get us, I just want to get some players who instinctively know where their team mates will be and play some proactive football rather than reactive. We’ve improved loads and I trust Naisy to keep that going but the worry is someone fancies him down south and he’s taken away before he has a proper chance to build something.

No idea about Penrice but every time I've seen Dhanda against us, he's looked the part. If he can replicate that kind of form for us, he'll be a massive upgrade on Grant. I can't wait for that waste of space to be gone. Quietly hopeful for Spittal as well. Like Scott, I'd love to see us try to get Lyall Cameron in, just the type of signing who could kick on at Hearts.

I think signing the better players from rival clubs is a solid strategy, better than A/J-league projects or League One jobbers. Still room for the odd player from further afield but I'm in favor of mostly bringing in guys we know can do it in this league.

Can only really think of Shankland recently, think talking him down is a stretch as well but I did have concerns about his pish season in the Belgian league aye and thought it was a risk at the time hedging our bets on him. Usually take the attitude of wait and see with new signings, which I’ll be doing with Dhanda and the others but doubt he’s going to be a massive upgrade on what we have already in that I think we always over exaggerate how bad the players we have the now are. I don’t feel I’m talking dhanda down at all either?

Can’t really say much about penrice as can’t even remember a game he’s played in but if he’s being bought on potential at 25 he better realise it pretty quickly if we want to be selling him for millions

I think rowles actually shat it from hurting Tavernier because he was getting up and his leg was at an angle, it was a chance to take all the ball and also cement him but he ducked out and just dangled a leg.

Penrice is not an improvement on anybody we have at the moment. Can see Dhanda being quite meh but have moments of excitement and decent skill and the odd decent goal. Spittal should hopefully be decent but he’ll be 29 next season and has almost his entire career in the division below. 

Morphs absolutely right. We always talk down our current player and talk up all these jobbers that’ll maybe do a turn for us. Would much rather have an Australian international than somebody plying their trade at Dundee or some pish like that.

We do a weird thing where we think we need to put every new signing straight into our starting eleven. Spittal and Penrice will hopefully be nothing more than decent opshuns, Dhanda is the only one of the three I'd have as a starter.

I thought Forrest done well in comparison to everyone else tbh. He was the one player that looked like he might be able to so something.

I can't stand watching Beni now tbh, nice guy etc but he actually moves like a 70 year old man on the pitch. Every once in a blue moon he'll motor through the midfield but the rest of the time he just labour's around the place at a snails pace.
