I see this cretin has released a wee video announcing his comeback.

Pretty hilarious considering his snivelling news night appearance saying the 'character' has ruined his life.

I'm usually of the comedy is fair game in any aspect camp, but I think this guy really has a negative effect on Young British males. It's not even comedy tbh, just a lot of shite promoting rape.

Should he be allowed back?

Not convinced he exactly has a negative effect on young males ; he's part of a culture rather than the cause of it. Having said that, he's an obnoxious cretin and it was thoroughly pleasing seeing him getting his comeuppance.

As far as being 'allowed back' goes, he wasn't censored as such in the first place. ITV made a decision to cut his show based upon the bad press it had brought them. No-one ever stopped him from making Vines.

The culture of which he is a part should be fought primarily through education rather than censorship. If he was to be sanctioned it should be for something like sexual harrassment.

Show was never pulled, it just wasn't renewed for a second series. And that had been done before the rape joke issue.

Fair enough. They were still defending his show and their decision to show it for some time while complaints were being made, though.

Imo the rape joke thing gave them an easy way out. They acted pretty poorly throughout and the issue was with his entire persona - which they defended - rather than one misjudged joke.

The rape culture thing is utterly mental. Where did it come from? Porn? Increased sexualisation of women through the internet? Insecure wee guys who see women being 'available' on the internet but are full of rage they can't have them?

I naively thought that 'rape you' comments were just an 'internet thing' but I was speaking to someone yesterday whose aunt was told "I am old enough to rape you" by a barman (!!!) on christmas eve when she made a joke about him singing along to take that and said "you're a bit young for liking them?" to the guy. How do you get to the stage where you think that is in any way an acceptable comment at any time, never mind your place of work?

Which parts of rape culture are you referring to specifically? I'd actually argue that it's a reversal of what you'd see in the 60's/70's. It's getting more attention now because people are able to be openly against it, and it's pretty much universally vilified. But at the same time we've got a vocal portion of the british male youth that have been desensitised to the word rape due to shit like CoD where they shout it all day long out of context. The latter group I can't imagine are actually committing acts of rape; the barman in your story and the subject of this thread for example, are just dickheads.
