The Conservatives are incredibly weird and creepy.
To think some on here are considering supporting this shit.

Israel has a right to trade freely, even from its territory that isn't recognised internationally. Councils and groups should also be free to make a political statement through the boycott of goods. If there is any actual anti-Semitism coming about from these boycotts then tackle it at source, not by boycotting the boycott.
Without looking in to the story or the ban in any great detail it seems absurd to me.

This is a Government who refuses asylum to thousands of tamil torture victims so it can keep it's arms deals sweet with sri lanka. What should we expect? The Israeli/anti semitic line is a bit of a distraction to an extent as well, as it is also going to outlaw 'ethical' choices - "all publicly funded institutions will lose the freedom to refuse to buy goods and services from companies involved in the arms trade, fossil fuels, tobacco products." Never mind the 'Sport Scotland' healthy eating campaign, it will be unlawful to refuse to buy goods from fast food companies with objectives diametrically opposed to yours etc. It goes on and on. Outrageous.

I've never understood why councils are not responsible for raising and spending their own revenue and also deriving policies in accordance with that. It might even encourage people to vote in local elections.
Instead you end up with central government interference. Daft.

She thought the big councils were getting a bit too strong, would rebel against her authority, so used this to take them down a peg or two? Might be wrong though.

It was under the guise of tackling loony left councils like Hatton and his Scouse mates, as opposed to letting the local electorate do the work of getting rid of them.

Pubs and Clubs are reporting they were pretty steady over the festive period - but then when people are short of cash they still seem to find enough to go out on the piss...some of the higher end venues will suffer. City in general does seem quieter at the weekends...not as many people out and about shopping, going out for dinner etc. I think there is worse to come this year - a lot of projects that I was due to be working on have been pushed back to 2017 already.
