What's the deal with Penicuk?

Taxi driver was telling me earlier how it was great... Of particular note were the schools:

'5 Proddy and 2 Catholic primary schools and 2 Proddy high schools' apparently

I went to High School in Penicuik and the Catholics tended to go St. David's in Dalkeith. Was never an issue though.

This VW stuff...does anyone actually buy a car because it pollutes less?
I get the cheaper road tax but the governments aren't going to retrospectively penalise folk and make them pay more due to the VW fraud so who cares if it throws out a bit more dirt?

Believe it or not, a lot of folk are bothered about their carbon footprint.

Well that's a bigger issue that is out of the individuals hands, but if everyone thought like that, nothing would ever get done. I'm content with trying to live as clean as I can and feel like I'm doing my own tiny bit. Lots of people who drive these cars will think the same I'd imagine.

No one will get anywhere with whataboutery.

Well I agree with that and would say I do the same. My point is more that it doesn't really matter while certain parts of the world offset whatever reduction we make, and given that they're expanding and emitting more, like Indonesia, I don't think this lead by example idea is likely to take hold.

It's nice, but it's not going to do anything. If someone wants a car that pollutes more than others I can't pretend to be annoyed about it at all.

Aye it is largely pissing in the wind unfortunately.

But the point I was making to Prancer is there are a lot of people who do actually care and will be more likely to buy cars advertised as environmentally friendly or whatever.
