Before long everything will be going up at 5% to cover these rises yet no one will get a payrise to afford this and jobs will be reduced - retailers already threatening this. Furthermore the gap between the lowest paid and the skilled is closing and before long no one will bother being a nurse, tradesman etc. as they'll get paid marginally less to sit on a till without the hard work. It only works if wages across the board rise and not just the lowest wages going up, pushing prices of everything up, whilst no one else gets a payrise. The living wage probably only need increased again due to the cost inflation from the last increase

They're working what, 6 hours every game (if that). Hardly going to break the bank

£8.25 an hour to serve pies is a good deal.

Brb, people are becoming nurses and tradesmen for the money.

Tell us more about how the wage gap between the skilled and unskilled is shrinking so much in the UK that people will aspire to unskilled jobs, Prancer, despite every bit of empirical evidence out there showing that income inequality between the skilled and unskilled has risen significantly in recent years.

Minimum Wage 1999 £3.60 Minimum Wage 2015 £6.70 Average Salary 1999 £20,800 Average Salary 2015 £27,000 Pretty clear to me whose had the greatest increase over the past 16 years. Figures came from a quick google search - I can't be arsed researching it much more. No issue with taxing the mega rich more but they are too intelligent to pay tax and it's those in the middle who are standing still - unless that is dealt with the gap will close to a degree people will question why they should work hard to become an electrician rather than just a labourer, a nurse rather than a care worker and so on.

Those are minimum, there is nothing other than social stigma (and themselves) stopping someone who works in Tesco for minimum wage progressing career wise.
There are very few careers out there which need to have a highly qualified background to start.

"Quick Google search"

Also, the minimum wage had only just been re-introduced in 1999 and was being factored in. It's just cherry picking.

How bitter must you be to resent people earning a reasonable wage man

Great for the low earners temporarily but the people on slightly higher wages will suffer the most.

But I researched it quickly on Google guys
