I did the marathon yesterday. People were dropping like flies.

Don't know the cause of death but I see he ran another marathon 2 weeks ago and it was difficult conditions yesterday.

I was aiming for 4hr30mins-4hrs50mins but starting near the back is awful as there are loads of people who start walking after a few miles. Loads of bottle necks too!

Also, when I saw the weather there was no way I was going to push myself. Wasn't like I was going to set any records and I didn't want to end up being carted off in an ambulance.

I feel your pain starting at the back, I did the great north run a few years back and spend the first three miles dodging people who were intent on walking it or who'd done zero training and were standing puking or had collapsed.

Were you running for charity or just as a personal challenge?

Cheers Floyd - yeah, if I ever do one again I will be lying about my anticipated time and going nearish the front of the amateurs. It isn't just the dodging people - I waited for 45mins on the start line before it was our turn to go.

Did it for the British Legion so raised a bit of cash for them. Always wanted to do the London marathon though - so glad I did it.

Collapsed around the 22.5 mile mark and was treated immediately and taken to hospital, where he died. Read an article that says they don't know the cause of death yet. He was running in memory of his dead who died suddenly 2 years ago, sounds like he had found running as a way to deal with his grief. His just giving page was at £6.5k when I looked this morning. Sitting at 45k now
