Telling you boyz. The sixteen grand forward line is getting papped.

Not renewing my season ticket for the first time in twenty odd years is a wise move Sound

Mind when we were in the championship and signing established top flight players?

If we need a forward who has been rattling them in in the diddy leagues don't we already have Keena? A guy who's meant to be part of the first team next season.

He's had a pretty long career now - 6 years as a pro or so? - and he's shown very little in that time to suggest he can do anything at a good level. He was binned quick snap at Aberdeen and since then has bounced around a handful of clubs before finally scoring a few goals at the Monday night Powerleague. When has this ever paid off for us?

Some players develop late Jezza

I basically agree with you, though - taken in context with our other recent signings/targets, this is incredibly underwhelming. We've seen how often players struggle to adapt to moving up one division - a player who's scored a lot two divisions below is the sort of signing you expect from a bottom six club. I guess I'm just trying to say that I don't want to completely write off any individual too early.

On another level, it's like Levein is trying to troll us at the moment by replacing the Whatsapp model with something that's obviously worse just to make a point.

The best was when we came back up and then dismantled that squad, then signed a new team every 6 months.

I pay monthly subs to keep Talk Hearts going.

That doesn't mean I endorse the absolute drivel you post on a daily basis. I tolerate you whilst keeping my fingers crossed that one day you'll just fuck off.

That shankland was just a big huddy for Aberdeen though.

We've seen what he can do in this league and it's not that great.

We're  going to have about 8 to match our right backs.

Maybe they're being brought in as left backs?

It is Levein, after all.

Could've said the same about Paul Hartley when we signed him (and lots of people did).

Again - I agree that this guy's an underwhelming target to say the least, and have explained why in the two posts which followed the one you quoted. I do think we should at least be keeping an eye on the lower leagues, though.

Aye we should definitely, but don't think we should be going for players who “might end up good”.

We should be going for players who are young and standout in that league.  Players who are obviously a cut above the rest and are able to slot into our team.

I'd rather we were signing 17/18/19 year olds that might turn out good but they were being signed for the youth team initially with the idea that they get some game time in the first team.

Shankland is 22, failed to score a goal for Aberdeen and has found his level in the lower leagues.  He was actually at the point of playing in the championship and then dropping down even further.

There will be good players down in the lower league stage now and again but I don't think targeting these leagues for the main source of our transfers is a good idea at all.

The majority of players in our own league aren't up to the standard of what we'd expect at hearts, before you even go down into championship/league 1 etc.

I'd say at 22 if you're still playing league 1 football, 9 times out of 10 you're not good enough to play at a top 6 team.

Shanklands almost 23, was released by Aberdeen 12 months ago, Scored 0 goals in 17 last season in the championship, wasn't retained by St Mirren (who have lots of Hearts rejects as regulars).

Hmmmm what part of this doesn't make for a nightmare signing. Eek
