What's the crack with these yellow vests? What do they actually stand for? Small minded, xenophobia, hate May, hate the EU, hate the left, but what do they actually stand for, apart from “supporting our boys” and a no deal Brexit?

Unrelated to Brexit but I was driving on the M90 today and near Kinross went under a bridge with a large group of people waving massive Saltires at all the passing cars. Very bizarre behaviour.

That's the 'bridges for Indy' brigade.

Every so often they stand on bridges with saltires to fight for independence

Reading the background to all this. It's getting scary.

What's this protest about? All you can hear is the loony saying something about the Met.

Quote:When so much is uncertain, I can guarantee you this: pensioners, who voted for Brexit by almost two to one, will not say that in all fairness they should be the first to make sacrifices as the pain bites. Nor will any Conservative who hopes to be elected dare suggest it.

For all the attention it receives, the true English vice isn't masochism, but a sadism that dare not speak its name. A sadism that, with a hypocrisy worthy of perfidious Albion, extols the virtues of being chastised while taking great care to ensure that, however hard the whip is cracked, the lashes always land on someone else's body.

And if we haven't learned that from them getting it spectacularly wrong in 2015, getting it spectacularly wrong in 2016, and getting it spectacularly wrong in 2017 too, we've learned precisely nothing.

Here's a rather less bizarre article. Food for thought.

People are now pouring over that Bastani guy's PHD and it looks like there's lots of plagiarism in it

Such a boring argument given that you don't need a PhD to be an authoritative voice on politics (if you did, most of his critics would also be excluded) and he doesn't sell himself as 'Dr Aaron Bastani' anyway. Total non-issue.

Granted I've not followed the story closely but I've not seen anyone say you need to have a phd to be an authoritative voice in politics - maybe I've missed it.

From what I've seen it's people having a go at him for being a fraud and full of shite. Jezza

The interesting thing to me is that they have moved away from criticising the methodology (the point of the blog) to searching for plagerism.
