The big question is how it will affect employment figures? Personally don't think it'll be sustainable.

Aye, it's a tough one, they would have to offer a lot of incentives to businesses, they won't want their profit margins decreasing. It's questionable whether there would be enough appetite for growth in the small business sector.

If you are going to raise the minimum wage, then surely everything would just get more expensive in line with it and there wouldn't be much difference to what's left in your pocket at the end of the day.

In theory, yes, but since he government is topping up these people's wages with benefits and tax credits anyway, it would be unlikely to impact on inflation if it was done sensibly. It's a balancing act, as you can't raise it too quickly, but a reasonable raise towards the living wage will save government money without affecting inflation.

The same arguments about the minumum wage's introduction were made, that it would result in job losses etc. It proved unfounded and employment rates increased.

It was more things that don't rise in line with inflation, mainly things that people spend all their money on ie, rent, supermarkets, energy and fuel. There would have to be strict regulations.

The opposition to the minimum and now living wage is entirely ideological. It would provide stimulus to the economy and lead to growth.

Can definitely see why his ratings are on the up. Night and day from the fanny at the start of the whole campaign.

I know they want us to think it, but he does come across as though he genuinely cares for the wellbeing of normal people.

His hardened stance on the snp is ill advised tho imo. Could end up looking like a snake.
