My impression of Comedian is that he's pretty well off (works on the rigs, I think?) and looks down his nose at anyone poorer than him, whilst completely lacking in empathy to the point of aggressively refusing to consider others.

Might be wrong.

Emotions are probably running high because people commenting are personally affected by the contents of TC's post and probably his lack of empathy in the protest thread has carried on over here to assume lack of empathy too. It's sometimes easy to forget that people are personally affected by COVID-19 because it just gets the oldies. Although TC's initial post was fine, but of course open to critique/discussion.

I think most people agree though that the whole culture war thing has really jumped the shark these days. Correctly or incorrectly I think a few people view TC as someone who loves Paul Joseph Watson and thinks that Boris and Rees-Mogg are "characters" rather than bad faith actors who work against the working class. Without concrete proof of TC being iike this we are merely creating a construct of someone that probably doesn't reflect who he is and he will probably view Mak as some "liberal brainwashed by the MSM" which I know couldn't be further from the truth too.

Why are most care homes privatised and why aren't the owners criticised for the lack of PPE available? Why should the government pay for the PPE in private care homes? Privatised care homes only seem to care about profit and that is disgusting. Pisses me off.

Read the first few paragraphs of that and was all set to give him the benefit of the doubt - you don't get to write your own headlines, and it didn't seem like he was actually going to say 'there is no appetite for it'. But no, he did actually use those exact words. Bizarrely out of touch.

I remember there being a surprisingly high proportion of this board being anti-independence. Not sure if that's changed very much over the years.

Can't ever remember this board having lots anti independence posters tbh.  There are people who have changed their tune but can't ever remember it being mostly unionists or even close to it.

The debates back in the day used to just be Mags vs everyone else with VS chiming in how much he hates Nicola sturgeon Laugh

People change their mind based on the latest tweet they've read so I'd imagine there's been a lot of different opinions.

Don't know which way I'd vote in another referendum. Got absolutely no interest in Scotland being governed by the SNP.

Voted Yes last time but had no interest in politics at the time.

The SNP would be getting voted into government for the foreseeable future if we gain independence, which I'm sure you know fine well Sound

Not really, I have my doubts that they'll continue to exist if independence happened. There will likely be a cross over period that they oversee but I don't see decades of the SNP being in after indyp nah.

I think there's a big chance the party will implode once independence is achieved, there are far too many people in there with different ideas on how the country should be run. They're only united because they want independence. We're already starting to see divisions grow with cunts like Cherry and I'd be surprised if they all choose to work for the same party.

Just find this whole “I'm not wanting an SNP gvt” extremely short sighted tbh.

Definitely not true. Lots of votes for the SNP are to secure independence. As soon as it's achieved they will lose enough votes that would usher in a coalition or at least a minority government. The Scottish Parliament is designed for minority governments/coalitions but right now SNP is hoovering up so many votes because independence trumps any other politics for people.

I would immediately vote for a non-unionist Scottish Labour, Scottish socialist or Green Party.

I'd be very excited to join new political parties created in an independent Scotland.

I'd vote green 100% of the time in an independent Scotland. I'll vote SNP until that's achieved.

I reckon they'd be grannied in for a good few terms so we'll need to agree to disagree.

Plenty more reasons than that I'm skeptical about independence.

The yes movement prior to 2014 was the first time I've felt excited and energised by a political movement in my life. Although I always realised Scotland wouldn't immediately become a socialist utopia post-independence, I'd say that in the past year or so I've become increasingly concerned at how reactionary a fairly large part of the broader yes movement (i.e. people who vote yes/support independence beyond those who drove the movement in 2014) seem to be. I do have some concerns over how socially conservative an independent Scotland might be tbh.

Edit: also suspect Mikey's right that, if nothing else, the SNP would have a grace period of at least one term after independence, and probably more. They might struggle in a context in which they'd have to take full ownership of all of their own policies, though.

We can agree to disagree of course, but I think it's clear that the big SNP voting 'bloc' would immediately split up. Also the SNP would have to re-brand at the least and find new policy story beyond independence.

Good to be sceptical of independence, I am too. I'm also sceptical of anything but Majority Conservative governments in the UK between the present day and the day i kick the bucket.

I don't actually think they'd exist. Once they've achieved their goal of Indy Tasmina and the tartan Torys will go one way and Mhairi Black and Co will go another.
