My dad always says it's the worst day of his life, and it got me thinking, what's the closest thing the younger generation have to Dens Park?

Celtic on New Years in 2006? Probably didn't have much of an impact in the grand scheme of things.

Cup Finals in 96?

Losing to ICT at Easter Road?

Losing to St Mirren in the LC final?

I was 1 in 86 so obviously wasn't aware of it.

New Year's Day 06 is the one from that list.

I get the impression that Hearts from then through until 98 was a series of enormous anti-climaxes as dashed hopes (e.g. Airdrie 95).

However, now we live with no massive calamities but death by a thousand tedious cuts - basically from 2016 onwards.

A bit like Aberdeen from 2000 until McInnes

That's definitely up there, but I'm old enough now that football isn't all that important to me these days. Warnock

That Celtic game in 2006 was just a gut punch.

Gutting moments that Celtic New Years game is up there, the St Mirren cup final is a fucking sickener.

For pure unadulterated rage though, nothing will top the Andy Davis game :Woy

The Motherwell league cup semi at Easter Road is probably up there as well actually, Jamie McAllister :Get To Woy

I remember convincing myself that we were going to win the 96 Scottish Cup. Was proper devastated when Rousset chucked one between his legs Sob

I was 10, tbf Warnock I don't allow Hearts to rule my life to that extent any more.

I don't get guys who say it was the worst day of their life etc Laugh Surely as you get older these things become pretty meaningless.

It barely registered when we got relegated this year other than the annoyance at being shafted.

If 5-1 #nltf has taught us anything, it's that what happened five minutes ago in football is ancient history and almost entirely irrelevant. Monty Oh Well

It can feel shite for a few minutes, but I'm usually over anything major by the time I get home.

Maybe if we'd been relegated in a final day shootout or something like that (e.g. Hibs against Hamilton), it would have felt like a gut punch. By the time the decision was made, I was bored of waiting.

Sometimes get a bit miffed with Hearts for about an hour or two after a game, then you sit and have a few pints and think, who gives a fuck Trump Ha

Too young for '86 but Football wise I was more pissed off when hibs won the cup than I have been at any hearts defeats.

The Budge-era post championship season has genuinely sucked the life out any enjoyment of going to the football for me bar the occasional social with friends pre or post game.

Hibs winning the cup was a bit of a dull one come to think of it Monty Umm

The day Hibs lost on penalties to Hamilton and got relegated was fucking amazing though. Pub was bouncing. Boy ordered four bottles of champagne for all the Hearts fans and this Hibs boy that looks like Brick Top went berserk and went for him Zlat

Definitely not on par with Dens, but it might be in my top 10.

You look at the dates on that list, including the game I somehow missed and you quickly realise the horrendous nature of being the nearly men time and again. Thing is, it was still, bar brief periods in 1997-98 and 2005-06 by far and away the greatest time to support Hearts since the 1950's!  Massive away supports, a real atmosphere at Tynecastle, numerous iconic Hearts players and it mattered so much more!
