Their sell-on will be a chunk of the total fee we make on him (i.e. the initial fee plus any bonuses, clauses or sell-on fees). Otherwise you could just manipulate it by letting him go for tuppence and getting the real cash paid in instalments further down the road.

The good news with it is if Bologna stick any clauses into the sale we could keep getting cash chucked our way for years to come

Unfortunately a third of what we get is going to Celtic. It's a shame but on the other hand as Picard says we're going to get by a distance our second biggest ever fee for a boy who was probably on our books for under two years as a teenager

Where have you seen this? I've never seen it explained like this before.

Not seen any details of what Celtic are due but assume folk are just going by other deals like when McGinn went to Villa….

My understanding of the deal was that because we didn't pay a fee when we picked him up from their academy they were then due 30% of his sale.

I've since read articles before he joined Bologna Cheltic were willing to waive their sell on to get him back, but absolutely nothing to say that Cheltic will get a future cut.

What are you basing this theory on other than the McGinn to Villa deal?

You're overcomplicating it - it's not a further sell-on clause, it's a sell-on clause. Celtic are due X% of whatever we make from selling him, so that includes the clauses that come into play as part of the deal as well as whatever we got paid the day he left.

Look at it this way - if Baloney sell him to AC Milan for 15-20 million it won't all be paid in a lump sum, it'll be an up-front fee of probably less than half that with the rest coming in instalments and bonuses. We would be due a cut of the full deal, not just whatever gets paid up front.

We'll get pennies if anything it's not worth getting bothered about.
